For years, it used to be HIS. Then political correctness came in, and it became HIS or HER. Now, I guess to balance out the years of HIS, just HER is sometimes used as well. No real rule on this one, actually, as I think at this point all three are acceptable (ITS is not). I use HIS or HER.
BTW, Native American refers to people formerly known as American Indians. The term you're looking for is a native English speaker.
