I find the whole thing very interesting from a human nature point of view. How many times does any person have to apologise before it is accepted. Will some people ever accept an apology and at the end of the day do people really care?

Personally, I think offenders should be banned from all poker rooms for two years -whether this is enforcable I don't know. If the major rooms got together this could happen ( not that this would affect betfair with it not being a major room.)

Anyway, here's the link to his apology and an explanation. I think he comes across as a decent person who is genuinely sorry for being stupid/naive/greedy.

i'm sure there will be plenty who will disagree.

This "he's a nice guy" **** needs to stop. Just because you're a nice guy doesn't mean you should get a free pass for wrong doing. He's a cheat and you all got played.

Why even apologize? Go ahead, cheat all you want, the poker community is so corrupt and has so many skeletons in their own closets that they don't even give a ****.

He might be the nicest guy in the world, but that isnt and shouldnt be enough to get people to forgive an already wealthy poker pro making a bit more money by cheating.

Hell, he could be a totally sound bloke and if i met him maybe id offer to buy him a pint, but he isnt at the forgiveness stage and i dunno if he ever will - since these threads always go back to referencing him you should bear in mind that Zeejustin was caught cheating years ago - how can these people who cheat possibly think saying sorry is enough if they cannot learn from the lessons of the first half dozen people caught multiaccounting and taking over from others etc.

This should be the yoke he carries for the rest of his career in poker - what isnt important is people forgiving him but him never forgiving himself.

In time the community shall, and should, get to the point of thinking "he has turned himself around, made a mistake, learnt from it and moved on with his life" but this was less than 6 months ago - we should not be there as a group quite yet, and its disgusting that Betfair is trying to force the community to forgive and forget what one of their pros has done.

What Imper1um did was wrong. He robed others of possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars.

He got what he deserved IMO.

The funniest part about these online cheats (Mizzi, Bonomo, Field, etc.) is that they attribute their cheating to being young and immature but in some of these cases they went through great lengths to cheat. For example, Field bought a bunch of routers in order to multi-account from different IP addresses, same with Bonomo and Mizzi offered to buy Vaughn's account in that event, how can anyone say that it's just "boys being boys" when every step of their actions was premeditated?

Don't know if I'm any clearer on what I actually think about the situation. If account sharing is akin to taking drugs in sport then there should be some sort of industry wide ban as a deterrent measure.

It seems to me that the popular culture before this (and other incidents) was that although account sharing was wrong it was ok if no-one found out.

Phil Hellmuth was up to it back in 2005 while Mike Matuow exposed himself recently.

Perhaps it is good that such a high profile player like Mizzi was caught. He did not get his sponsorship with betfair because he cheated he got it in spite of cheating.

I think the apology is a PR move. Obv, this is all a harbinger of a MAJOR announcement that Sorel will be the new spokesperson for Absolute Poker and UB. Open your eyes people.

Sorrel says - "if these arguments had been presented on this scale, prior to me buying the account, I would have NEVER done it."

wow - I thought this kid had potential. now, I'm sure he's nothing less than scum.

If you can't think for yourself and make ethical decisions based on your upbringing - then you should thank Mum and Dad for raising a real twit.

Just what the poker community needs, another chump with no morals. Tournament directors, be sure to seat him at Min's table with JJ prodigy.
