you seem like a nice guy to hang out with buddy. your friends must love to tell you "awesome" holiday stories.
I suppose I am a "nice guy" but I am very boring. Not like you. You are so awesome. You have a picture of Clint Eastwood as your avatar and you are a travelling ****ing ninja!

Hopefully the government will just end up taxing Pokerstars and giving them a certificate of exemption. Alternatively if Singapore pool sets up an online poker room.. that would kick serious ass.

Edit: Lol.

"The bill aims to create an exemption regime, where Singapore-based organisations can apply to be exempted from these restrictions. They have to meet certain criteria - such as being a non-profit, contribute to charitable purposes, and have a good track record of complying with local laws."

Bye bye Pokerstars and hello Singapore Pools.

If the people don't like it, then just punish a few with 15-year jail sentences and they'll soon come around to the idea...

Juk
Youve kind of missed my point. The sentence of 15-years is a maximum penalty. Noone has posted any data about just how often someone actually gets sentenced to 15 years. In fact i'm almost entirely certain that its never happened before. So we have harsh maximum penalties but in practice our judges sentence primarily at the lower end of the spectrum. You probably wont grasp how the law works here because its just different how it works here. Alot of people seem to have this perception that half the people in Singapore are in jail or broke from all these insane fines. A little bit of local perspective is definitely required when discussing legal systems. The point of the the thread was discussion of the banning of online poker and stiff penalties and the ever-growing national monopoly gambling company that is already huge. Doesnt that sound like a more interesting thing to talk about to sensible people ?

where did you get your info on this "current perception". You've plucked up barely 50% of real info and just used that to slant it into a completely one sided argument which just makes you look like a fool.

Have you never heard of maximum and minimum sentences for crimes ? Try not to sound so high and ****ing mighty when you diss my country without knowing **** about it.

The entire purpose of these laws are on the basis of PREVENTIVE DETERRENCE. It doesn't just happen a few times a year and so what if it does? Is a few people dying each year from falling litter an acceptable level of life to you ? And yes I can comment on how full of **** you are because I'm a lawyer IN singapore so i certainly know much more than you about our "archaic crazy dictatorship" laws.
singapore sucks dude. bunch of communists

Heh, didn't see this reply.

Exactly what are your beloved dictators deterring with their ban on online poker?

Oh, and I've spent quite a lot of time working in Singapore ~10 years ago. Nice people on the whole, but a little lacking in initiative imo.

I wish we had more of your country's laws over here[the Netherlands] because having a high maximum sentence is a good thing just in case, and i think that the smaller crimes having only low jail time/fine, makes it easier and more probable that the person evolves into bigger crimes.
Like for instance one person steals a bicycle and is likely never to do it again, so you can give him a low punishment, but there are persons you can say from that they will with high possibility do it again and/or evolve into car theft for instance, so it is in my mind very good to have a possibility to punish/jail this person for a long[er] time to possibly prevent that, because here in the Netherlands the punishments are pathetic for many of crimes, for instance you can't be locked up for more then a max of 6 years for killing somebody with your car even if you where drunk and driving 200km. and you only have to serve 2/3 of that time, and to my knowledge that 6 years has never been given, sometimes the get even community time, for causing the death of a child while drunk because intent couldn't be proven, and i make no joke, you can find it on the internet.

And for your dilemma, have you already looked into the possibility of cashing out your winnings can be done safe if you play on foreign sites and win?
and is it worth while for you to take the risk, how much do you win on average a year?. and is it already known what the punishments are for breaking that law?.

Yes still legal, but don't quite get the point of it though.

At least we had the chance to see this coming late last year. Just pissed that I am near to clearing my Ultimate Challenge Bonus but there will be no partial payment for that...

Hello Ken,

Thank you for your email.

First of all I can confirm, that unfortunately we will no longer be able to offer PokerStars games to players in Singapore from February 2, 2015. This restriction is due to Singapore’s Remote Gambling Act, but rest assured you will still be able to access your PokerStars account and withdraw funds at any time. However, from February 2 you will no longer be able to make deposits or play on PokerStars, and sending (or receiving) player-to-player fund transfers must be done before this date.

It has been our pleasure to welcome players from Singapore, and it is with regret that we will no longer be able to offer you our products. However, you can still spend your FPPs on bonuses in the VIP store, and we will give partial credit toward Stellar Rewards and Milestone Cash Credits for those who have made at least $10 worth of progress toward their next reward. These credits will be made by February 5.

Having said that, please note that no part bonus reward or bonus extensions will be granted. We cannot grant you a partial credit for your The Ultimate Challenge bonus.

Please also note, that requesting a cashout does not have any affect on a pending bonus (like your Ultimate Challenge Bonus). Requesting a cashout only makes you ineligible for any unclaimed bonuses that you did not make a qualifying deposit for yet.

Please let us know if you have further questions, we will be happy to assist.

Regards,

Gabriel

you must hate users posting in traveling threads right?
look, the user above me said "Probably the safest city I've ever been to" and i was putting my "cool knife story" in direct response to his comment - maybe i should have used a tongue in cheek smiley and a specific quote for you. no brag or anything, get real.
