I do understand that point; I simply do not believe that berating/mocking the "fish" ever produces this result. It's a stretch that sounds more like a shaky rationalization for defending his actions than anything else.

There's a reason why reg's don't like it when people berate the fish, or remind the fish of how much money they have lost. -EV

They still play eachother despite such beratement. Surely that's all the evidence you need?

There is a difference between a random fish who plays for fun with his work money, and someone whose employed by a poker site, considers himself a professional poker player, and who has an ego and reputation to defend. The random fish just wants to have a nice evenings entertainment, and so insulting him is -ev, as he'll start to think 'this is no fun' and go do something else with his time. The ego-driven professional poker player however, is going to continue playing poker regardless of what you say to him, because that's his job, and when you insult him, he'll take it personally, but his mode of getting back at you will be to try and take your money. To beat you. Not to run away with his tail between his legs. Because if he runs away then he's a coward, and is admitting that the person insulting him is right - he is a fish.

must not be any action if the thread's still on urin/gus spat
they both do their share of talking, if he said it about Guy than it would be really bad since he's nice and has no chance of winning

Well, you depend on a good relationship. Z and Gus dont need a good relationship to make money off each other.

No, it's completely different. The salesperson needs a good relationship with a customer. Gus isnt a customer, Z doesnt need to convince Gus of a good product.

Goes for both sides and afaik Gus started it.

Again, the durrrr Guy analogy is way off, because Guy was a fish who played for fun, Gus doesnt play for fun, he plays for a living.

I don't understand what's so hard to understand that Urin may NOT think that berating Gus is +EV, but chooses to do it anyway?

If anything it probably is though.

Guy <<<<<< Gus.

Guy is\was an obvious fish playing for fun more than anything else. Gus is a pro and will never stop playing just because someone said that he's bad at poker, because obviously, he isn't. That's why he is a pro.

Gus is not Z's "client" by any means. U could say that about Durrrr\Guy, but not on this Z\Gus situation.

From what his friend Galfond claims Urin has a very jewlike approach to poker, and knowing Gus' character I think it's safe to assume that all of this is a calculated move to tilt a presumably weaker player into donking off more money to him.

I doubt Galfond used the term 'Jewlike' since he himself is Jewish. Beight Jewish though I can confidently say I wish I had the same approach to poker as Urindanger.
