Just enjoy that this game is even remotely In a feature film this big with this cast and hopefully it will inspire someone to want to try it out.
This. Good post

Just seen the first trailer on live TV and there wasnt even a mention of Poker other than a security table overlooking a Live Table game (too fast to even see what they were playing), and Ben Affleck mentioned as the "Kingpin" of Gambling!

It's only natural that Batman would be the "Kingpin" of Gambling.

"that movie" -- if it's going to come from these guys, i mean -- would be the sequel to rounders, which RR is assuredly not. brian said that he and his co-writer DO want to write this at some point...
If they wait much longer, they'll have to have Mike McDermott entering the senior tournament (50 and over).

Yeah now they are saying Based on a TRUE STORY".

Bwahahahaha

There were computers, statistical analysis stealing from the inside out. Everything else pure fiction.

This movie will do for poker what Jaws did for swinging at beaches.....

But look at the bright side there's always the razzies

Looks like it's going to involve about 10 minutes of poker and with a misconception of poker.

Looks OK. Also looks like Afleck's playing the same character he played in "Boiler Room"

Anyone else notice that at :27 it's just a screen shot of a 4-table set-up? One of the flops only has 2 cards on it. Also when they zoom in to the cards in the next shot, it says "play money table".

At least get the poker part right.

Watching the trailer just reminds me that Affleck is 100x better behind the camera than in front of it. He's the modern day Kevin Costner.

I was wondering. So the "true story" is that internet gambling is a thing? I've never heard of someones dad being held hostage by a site. And for what so JT will shill for the site?

For what it's worth, the TV teasers I've seen have said "inspired by a true story" not "based on a true story." That I can buy. Of course, I'll go to my grave saying the actual true story would make a better movie than anything it merely inspires. Then again, it's why I'm a documentary fan -- I'm a big believer in the notion that truth is stranger than fiction.

Just lol @ the whining and sense of entitlement itt. Movie hasn't even come out yet, and generally any publicity is good publicity. Even if it isn't in this case, Hollywood doesn't owe you ****. Get over yourselves, stfu, watch and enjoy.

Do you think an exciting story like this (even if 'ZOMG they're exaggerating the negative aspects of my hobby/profession!!!!') or one showcasing a bunch of 25 year old nerds discussing 4 bet ranges in between sitting mute and motionless for 2 hours would be better for drawing new players into the game?

As a Swedish American, I plan on going to see the 11am matinee of this movie by myself eating popcorn, candy and wild cherry pepsi.

im pretty sure ppl in cinemas dont nerd it up and zoom into specific areas of the movie, just to try to find something to bitch and whine about.

but yeah that's a blunder I guess.

Seen the trailer several times, dont like it at all. Its going to portray poker in a bad light, and I have zero interest in seeing it.

At a time when we are trying to get online regulation, this certainly wont help in swaying public opinion. It has nothing to do with weather the movie will make people want to or not want to play, but to a person who is completely unfamiliar with the game, this movie will show the game is a terrible light. Every sports movie romanticizes the game they are portraying rediculously, this is the best they could come up with for online poker? Prior to black friday, thousands of people made their living playing online poker, and it brought tens of thousands of people into the game who now play live since online was shut down. The game deserves better...if not necessarily online, then poker in general does.

You idiots amaze me. I've been ignoring this thread for Awhile but now I have to chime in. This movie is a MOVIE. It has a minimal amount of truth mixed with a ****load of fiction. You all should be on your knees sucking each and every **** coming from the producers editors and director of this movie for putting poker in the mainstream. We all want regulated poker blah blah blah but don't want it portrayed anywhere close to the back room underground piece of **** that it really is. Enjoy the movie or not. But for **** sakes come out of your parents basement and join me in the real world.
