People don't just do it out of respect for the deceased, they do it for the family so that love ones don't have to hear aweful things said about the person they are mourning. How would you like it if a day after your parents die everyone talks about how awful of a couple they were. Or if your son dies, how would you like it if everyone talked about what a douche he was.
