Of the many ridiculous parts of this incident, this post says it all: how are the WSOP rules in any way applicable to the cash games?
Every year, someone makes a WSOP "sweat thread" to contain all of the posts following the series. Given all the crazy stories from down the hall, we're probably overdue for an "annual Rio cash game containment thread," started each year at the same time. I hereby move that this thread be that one.
To the OP specifically, how long were you there before this took place? The only possible explanation I'd have is that Player 2 is a habitual tanker, so the floor decided to head it off at the pass. But even that makes very little sense, since a) they gave you a different explanation, b) facing a flop all-in would reduce the chances of this being a habitual tank, and c) it's not like there is any incentive to stall in a cash game.
Anyway, crazy stuff. I still have never played cash games at Rio, but these threads make me doubt I ever will.
