Checked into Rio this morning for my 3 week WSOP trip. I'm in the room with the "do not disturb sign" on, lounging and taking a nap after the long flight from NYC. "Housekeeping" knocks on my door twice then tries to enter after I didn't respond. Luckily I had the latch on. I go to the door and open the latch. Her name tag says "Azucena" and she tells me that she received a call telling her to clean my room at 6pm which is an absolute lie because I'm the only one in the room and I just checked in a few hours ago. This is deeply disturbing. I pre-reg'd the bigger events after hearing stories about rio rooms getting broken in to but still...
Now the supervisor is trying to give me a $50 food comp to let it go. Wtf is going on here

The poker world is tough to beat as is with the rake, the expenses, and the Borevetz' loans but now with housekeeping it seems impossible

I checked in a few hours ago. There was nothing to clean. Also there was no call asking to get the room cleaned at 6pm...

Do these threads happen every year? Or after that one Stars pro talked about his laptop getting messed with while he was away from his room?

I have to agree with OP, that is disturbing. I think hotels that host major poker events or know poker players with large amounts online will be staying should offer guarantees that no one from the staff will try to enter room except at predetermined times arranged in person when checking in with the customer. With the amounts of money that can be stolen through access to rooms (and thus laptops) it's no longer a matter of 'locking up' ones belongings, even in a room safe, being all that's required to feel secure.

Op, can they show you a phone log with a call from your room requesting room service?

I would want to know exactly what the deal is with this supposed room service call. Demand to get some details on it.

This wouldn't surprise me if some rogue employees were tipping each other off about when another poker player checked in. They all know we most likely have a lot of cash on us.

Instead of "do not disturb" signs we should have "no cash or laptops in here" signs

Seems fishy that the supervisor would offer you a $50 comp

I'm sure there's no way someone in housekeeping made a mistake or has bad handwriting and meant to send Azucena to a different room.

Vegas housekeepers have been ignoring "do not disturb" signs for years.

I'm surprised you thought this thread was worth the $50.

Dude, she tried to tell me that I called down for a 6pm room cleaning...

Why not just check with the receptionist if Azucena is a legit cleaner?

If you did that and they say there is no Azucena working here then it's obviously suspicious.

If everyone made a thread whenever something unexpected happened in a hotel there would be hundreds each and every day. Like the other week I was staying in a hotel in Dublin, Ireland. I went out drinking with friends and when I got back someone had swapped the toilet roll in my room. It was white when I checked in, I know this as there is photographic evidence. But when I got back, I went to the bathroom and the toilet roll was blue!

Did she say that YOU called, or that she simply got a call?

As someone who has stayed in a lot of hotels I absolutely hate this ****. Even if you have the Do not Disturb hangtag on your door the freaking maids are constantly knocking or trying to come in. I've even had the the front desk and/or hotel manager call my room because "they were concerned" that these idiots hadn't been in my room for a couple days.

If she was a criminal then why would she tell you that you said something you obviously didn't say

I checked into a hotel in Minnesota years back. I put up the Do Not Disturb sign and told the desk I would call for housekeeping when I wanted it. The next morning they started banging on my door then calling the room 5 minutes later. I got pretty mad and didn't answer either. About 15 minutes later they broke the door to my room in with the phone still ringing. Took them a few minutes to get through too. The manager started to yell at me then I started screaming at him and he shut up. I made them refund my money for the next 3 days then went to another hotel.
