Realistic ways to create a new boom? Realistic ways to create a new boom?

Is this silly thread still around?

There won't be another boom, obviously. There will still be grinding opportunities, but it will never again be like in the heydays of the 2000s boom. The general state of knowledge is simply too high by now, and this is irreversible.

It's over, guys. Go home. Get a job.

Some more ideas:
-Pokerstars offer people to play for real money on their facebook app.

-It becomes possible to play for real money on xbox, and microsoft also launches a windows client for playing on their network.

-Google allows for advertisement of gambling sites in their ad sense program. They also launch a rake free room that gets their revenue from ads

- A new mmorpg sort of poker room with customisable avatars. A bit like PKR but still runs well on older machines and with less rake.

Tell all your friends the Chris Moneymaker story, and that they too can become like him. Then they'll tell their other friends, then their other friends will tell their friends, etc.. etc... Instaboom purely by word of mouth.

I am not saying that players should be the loud, obnoxious guy. But at least attempt to make some polite conversation, laugh, have fun, keep the players loose, and make it so that people will at least enjoy going.

I played at a table a few nights ago with a guy in his 20s who sat down, put on his headphones, and I kid you not, literally said one word the entire six hours I played -- he said "call" during one huge pot he was in.

I know this guy can do what he wants to do -- and at least he was not a huge prick to anyone or anything like that -- but I could see a lot of players being really turned off playing at a table with a lot of guys like that.

A lot of players don't mind losing, if they are losing but having a good time. But losing to a bunch of silent guys wearing headphones who are taking the 1-2NL game more seriously than the WSOP final table?

Where is the enjoyment in that?
Very good PokerPlayer80 - you have hit on the secret that the current "We are the best at poker" younger generation hasn't figured out. To their credit, there are a few of the pros who understand this dynamic. I don't know how true this is, but I've read that Antonio Esfandiari entertains high rollers by performing magic tricks at the table. Antonio's "opponents" are having so much fun watching the magic and being mesmerized by Antonio's showmanship that they willingly lose their money (but don't mind) because they are having fun. Doyle Brunson hinted about this in his "The Godfather of Poker" book: If you want to take their money, people have to be entertained.

Old timers like Amarillo "Slim" Preston and Puggy Pearson had a knack for spontaneous table banter and telling hilarious stories at the table. (Johnny Carson would never have invited Mr. Preston to appear on his show six times if "Slim" wasn't entertaining.) This is something the old timers (and a few of the pros) understand very well, but it's totally lost on the hoodie wearing younger generation that's grown up addicted to socially-isolating video games.
