Definitely some good PR/Karma for the Pokerstars Brand.

Are there other games like this that benefit science/humanity in some way? Any real results that have come from something like this?

There was some other scientific "game" released to the public that apparently was a big help to the scientist. Something about combining genes that time.

Cool story. Looks a little gimmicky though. I'm curious what sort of efficiency rate a game like this has compared to traditional crowdsourcing.

Tons of great citizen science projects these days to get involved in. Apparently birding is a big one (we know a lot more about bird migratory patterns than we ever did before, thanks to data collection by amateur birders through smartphone apps). But there's also stuff like categorizing objects in the Milky Way, analyzing batches of cells for cancer, or sifting through data from Mars to get more information on weather patterns there.

https://www.zooniverse.org/projects <== Just a little batch from probably the most well-known science crowdsourcing aggregator. Check out Cell Slider or Seafloor Explorer.
