Do people who think this wasn't a slowroll realize that the guy has this awesome staking arrangement with Stars that makes it so he basically can't fold anything ever, and that the pros are reminding him of this fact every 5 seconds?

Wouldn't it be better for the loose canon to run it only once given that he only keeps profits over the $100K he is given?

I'm pretty sure everyone was rooting for Phil to lose somehow, so the consoling was probably genuine.

It's almost as if catering to the weak players would be part of their overall strategy...

If you have a fish in your game and he wins some money, you tell him nice job, not that he got lucky and is -EV in the game. If you're at the table with someone, everything is fair game, especially being overly nice to someone. It's not 2-faced within the context of poker, it's strategic.

It's obvious they just love making fun of Phil and will take any reason to do so. Phil is usually a complete ass and it's good to see an amateur suck out on him, but most of the flak he was getting was completely uncalled for.
Agreed. Going to be painful to watch if it's just Daniel needling Hellmuth to hide his own inabilities again.

I completely forgot about this point as well. This was the cash game where the freeroll guy only gets to keep his profit, right?

If it was last hand in the session, definitely. Otherwise, it must depend how much time is left and what value there is in being there with say 50k for winning 1/4 for the rest of the session, which is all pretty hard to work out I would think.

He's got about a 27% chance under the circumstances to win one.

0.27 * $50,000 = $13,500
0.15 * $200,000 = $30,000

I know he has some chance to win 2,3 or 4 times in a row, but the better EV play was to run it once. Considering he has to give back $100k, it pretty much is a lock to go for the suckout. That tells you how much TV time is worth to people.
