Professional poker player Joseph Stiers says he was barred from playing the WSOP and its Circuit Events and all Caesars properties for card counting at blackjack. STORY..http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bal...miumvideo.html

Very disingenuous thread title, imo. "Poker Pro banned from Caesar's properties for card counting (which, while legal, everyone knows will result in a ban if noted) like an idiot, since that also keeps him away from many of his professional opportunities" would make a better title.

Another reason that all casino games by the casinos are rigged. Just waiting for the 100% guaranteed to lose table games. No jackpots and we take your money before even playing one hand.

Personally I do not believe that casinos should be allowed to kick people out of casinos unless it has to with behavior but card counting is not illegal.

IMO, the title is appropriate if one views the video in the original link. Card counting is legal and is done through thinking. The CEO Mitch Garber should be called-out for taking such harsh measures against a legit poker pro who relies on playing the WSOP for a living.

Here is Garber's bio... CEO of Caesars Interactive Entertainment and Caesars Acquisition Company (the good Caesars, lol) and is responsible for the Horseshoe Baltimore Casino, Planet Hollywood, Bally’s Las Vegas, The Cromwell Las Vegas, Quad Las Vegas, Harrah’s New Orleans, and the WSOP.

Maybe some "legit poker pros" should stop getting 86 from blackjack tables around the country in a bunch of different casinos that host events where they make a living

there is more than likely more to these sort of stories, maybe being caught playing BJ/other games again in the casino that you a banned playing them in or a reaction after the first time they were asked to stop playing BJ on the property. I know of several players/pros who are not allowed play BJ in any Caesars properties but they are very welcome to play slots/other table games/cash poker/WSOP etc

So everyone is taking the casino's line?
No wonder we are getting screwed left and right.

Right, like Andy Bloch, for example.

Let the kid play poker, ban him from the pits. Pretty easy, but its their casino, they can do what they want, sadly.

America kinda sucks

If he actually had thought about it, he might have decided not to s*** where he wants to eat again in the future..

Unlike Vegas, I didn't think casinos in Atlantic City were allowed to kick people out for card counting. I'm a little surprised they are allowed to do this in Maryland. But there must be something else going on here as far as AC goes.

You know if you card count you're taking a very big risk of getting banned. Doesn't seem like there's much more to it than that. If the casino wants to totally ban you that's a risk he was willing to take.

They are a private company following well-established policies that every poker pro should know about.

If the dude wants to get reinstated he needs to talk to them and figure it out.

I don't really see why anyone else should get all fired up about it.

The strangest thing about the video to me was that the guy said he was playing roulette when he first got kicked out. You would think that anyone who was willing to play roulette (which has an enorormous and unavoidable house advantage) would not be considered a threat to the casino even if he also sometimes counted cards.

Are you sad that you can do what you want with what you own? Or just sad that other people can do what they want with what they own?

There are many casinos that allow card counters in their casinos. Now if you win too much they may decide that you are banned. The problem is the policy is not entirely clear to be honest. There have been cases where they just ban you from playing blackjack but welcome you to play other games. The rules are unwritten and that is the problem. To be honest I think they get scared when someone counts cards and I understand why. People have lost jobs because of card counters.

Show a little class Caesars.

Caesars, how about simply saying "please do not play blackjack on any of our properties. If you play again we will 86 you from our casinos."

... given a thinking blackjack player is not doing anything "wrong," illegal or unethical

The actual morality/integrity/correctness behind the fact that players are not allowed to try to gain an edge vs a casino has no bearing on the question of whether or not counting is a good idea, given the fact that casinos will ban you for it; While it might seem absurd to some that players are not allowed to count at blackjack given the forced edge of the casino in almost all of their offerings, it's still a pro poker player's own fault if they get themselves banned via counting from the place where they intend to play poker professionally - they are (or at least should be) well aware of the rules of the casino that they have such an intimate professional relationship with.

Caeser's seems to have acted within their rights here, original thread title should have read "banned for not thinking."

So Cesar's and other US casinos don't use continuous shufflers?
In 2015?
Don't tell me dude got banned while 'counting' continuous shuffles because that would be hilarious..

Most casinos I've been to (canadian) have a mix of auto-shufflers and manual shoes. Whether this is because they are relatively small casinos and the lack of auto-shufflers has something to do with cost, I am not sure.
