Poker as a living... where to go ? Poker as a living... where to go ?

Hello everybody

I live in Quebec, Canada and I'm new to 2+2 forum. I bought and read some 2+2 books and I read this board every week. I played poker for the last 2 years, live and online. I'm 19 and I'm still at school, 1 year done in business administration at the university. I work this summer and take a break of school for the next session, which is from september to december. One of my friend is doing the same thing and we want to go about anywhere in the world to play poker and change our mind !

We first looked to go to Melbourne, Australia, but the cost of the flight is very expensive from Canada. The life there seems to be very expensive too. We'll probably choose a city in Europe since we can't play in USA because of our age. We're planning a 2 months trip.

I know 2+2 has members from everywhere in the world and I'm sure some of you can give us some advice. We would like to play in a casino or a poker club, something like NL200 or $50-$100 tourney/sng. I looked for London, Dublin and Paris, but it's hard to know what it looks like when surfing on casinos's websites.

What place do you suggest us ? What kind of appartment can we find and what's the range of price ?

Thanks,
Phil

Australia is nice. Flight is only 2200$ back-forth so its not that bad... If you cant afford that and want to live off poker, you might mant to wait a little longer to have a bigger bankroll to afford your lifestyle and whatnot.

I loved Pragues in republic czech. The appartments I checked there arent cheap but its a pretty nice city.

Paris is also pretty nice. Thing with Paris is that its one of the more expensive city to be living in so ya. For poker there, there Aviation Club that I believe only have 2-5+.

Las Vegas is really sick so far. Im there since 1 week and its pretty much the city that fits the most with my poker lifestyle.

You might as well look for Thailand. Theres a lot of threads about it in there somewhere.

That would be fun playing for a living at the Aviation Club. Wait 3 hours for a seat, see 40 hands a day, choke on cigarette smoke.

I would just start smoking. When in France you must do like they and smoke.

Barcelona is a nice option. Great city and juicy cash games at the grand casino.

Go to Vienna in Austria, and play at the Concord Card Casino.

I would probably rule out Dublin. I am from there and have lived in the USA since 1993 but go back for vacation twice a year. There are several casinos, however, it is very very expense to live in Dublin (It is now one of the most expensive cities in the world)

But if you can afford to live anywhere then you will have some fun

I think you are underestimating the cost of European living. There are very few countries left in eu where the cost of living is less than Melbourne.

Thailand is the most obvious choice for you. You can live like a king out there very cheaply but there is no live action that i know of.

Your best bet is L.A.

The Commerce 200$ Buy-in cap game runs Minimum 6-12 tables DAILY. And double these #'s for the $100 cap game.

Great weather as well.

Just the cost of living is a little high.

Galway in Ireland is awesome. It's a student town, so there's tons of partying and lots of young people. There are 2 semi-decent poker rooms w/ 2/4euro and 1/3euro and tournaments in the 50-200 range.

Just for your info, smoking is now banned in all interiors in France... no more smoke at the ACF. You do have to pay 100 euros for the annual subscription though, but that includes dinner for two at their great restaurant.
