Poker just a grind? Poker just a grind?

I mean does anyone honestly still enjoy playing with so much solved? Very silent, very robotic, I'd rather just play home games. How are you guys enjoying poker?

I'd rather shoot myself in the face than play NL but I still enjoy plo.

+1 to mixed games, much more enjoyable than the other forms of poker. Perhaps not as profitable for those of us just starting out, however.

And yes, poker is just a grind for most players. You really need to be playing higher stakes for it to no longer feel that way.

6 card PLO. Been playing 4 years now and doesn't feel like a grind. Still get excited over pretty hands and have fun whether winning or losing

As borg said, I'd rather off myself than grind NL.

It's solved till it's unsolved. That's why my new training site, Unsolved for Why, wil redefine the game for everyone from amateurs to seasoned veterans.

its pretty funny how people think poker = NLHE

I've been grinding for years and in that time only about about 1k hands were NLHE.

People think mixed games are not profitable or they assume games don't run so there is no way to make a living. But if you took the time to learn multiple variants, that would really help for when a certain variant is not running...one could just jump into a draw game, or a PLO table or a stud table.

Yes, NL has gotten to the point where it is stupid. It is solved. No doubt.

However, if you are playing correctly, you enjoy talking to the other players involved. Whether it is their kids, their business, their life problems, whatever. Poker is more than just the cards. Yes, the cards matter, but people matter for more than cards.

I spent my best poker years playing mainly O8, nice memories, but giving especially NLH live tournaments a shot, never actually learned the game properly to be honest. At my casino it's almost all NLH, only a bit PLO. The Cadillac may carry me, a bit differing from many itt.

It's only a grind if you play it in such a way that it is a grind. There is only "so much solved" if you insist on playing formats that have been analysed to death.

Yeah esp online NLHE, I mean live mid-higher stakes NL cash is still exilerating to me, and the most enjoyable format (when I run ok, when I dont I despise it).

PLO/PLO5 online is like crack, you can one day out of nowhere have spun a decent mid stakes bankroll and think you can walk on water, and the next day wondering wtf 20bis went and tilt cashout the crumbs you have left.

As a cash game player, I also enjoy/am addicted to mid/high stakes turbo/hyper mtts but cannot play the longer slower formats, couldn't think of anything worse. Also day 1s of a live mtt, I would rather kill myself but somehow still find myself giving them a shot once in a while, then regret it instantly.

I enjoy playing poker but I don't play as my primary source of income.

Guess depends on what one plays, how one goes about it. As a hobby player who mainly just just plays MTT's I still enjoy, have a good time and even win a bit of money playing poker part-time as a hobby.

Now if one plays daily and multi-tables cash for hours and hours then I'd imagine it would feel like a grind and I'd come to hate doing it.

Cheers!!!

I still enjoy playing in a casino. Chatting with people and still plenty of players making plenty of mistakes to make it profitable. Online is absolutely dead and horrific for nl cash games.

another reason not to play nl. plo and mix games are way more social. NL is like walking through a morgue.
It's not just the game itself-way to many of the players are just such torture to play with.

Sorry if we're focused on strategy rather than just getting loud and drunk and tossing our cards in the muck and saying whee

you sound fun to play with. sit there with your headphones, tanking, not saying a word and trying to suck every cent of ev on a single hand in some dirt game. that sounds amazing. Where do i sign up?

Guess what you can be fun to play with and also play well. You're not splitting the atom, you're playing poker.

Guys like you never figure out you make way more money in a fun game than in a serious game treating every hand like it's the most important one you'll ever play.

I do appreciate you proving my point though. Just the mere mention of people having fun at the table has your feather ruffled.

Haven't played poker as my primary income in over 15 years and now poker is fun again. I enjoy 5 card PLO and Big O now. You get to play so many more hands and there are so many different starting hands, things to consider, lines to take, etc. I occasionally still play some 2/5 NLHE with a friend of mine that I used to play with back in the day when he comes up but I'd rather stick hot needles in my eye then sit there any longer than I have to with him lol.

I mean Chess is also solved and it's still quite fun, a game being solved by the computer doesn't mean everyone is playing like the solver

you don't have to completely follow through with the bit. Just ask for a beer from the waitress and you're set. People see beers in cup holders and automatically assume you're a spot.

During an interview at Google in 2010, Garry Kasparov said that "maybe" the limit will be 8 pieces. Because the starting position of chess is the ultimate endgame, with 32 pieces, he claimed that there is no chance that chess can be solved by computers.
Chess is not solved and it wont be for a long long long long time to come.
