Agreed. This accomplishment has suddenly become far less impressive.

I've done numerous back to back to back days on 2 hours sleep.

I honestly don't think this was the main purpose. Yes, he obviously used the stunt as a promotion, but I think he really just wanted to get into the record books and do something crazy.

And to the question if he slept or not: I don't see how it matters. It is not a record that can't be broken anyway. Obviously alot of people could do it. But HE asked for the rules and then HE did it and had fun doing so. I am sure somebody else will break the record soon but I doubt Phil will care cause he had his fun.

really sick lol. I don't think I've ever been awake more than 45 hours or so straight, and I wasn't playing poker during that whole time either.

Congrats to Phil, it was a fun challenge and he and his team did a great job of letting fans stay as connected to it as they wanted to be. Throughout this whole thing though I read so many people saying things (in the streaming chat or in this thread) like "I could do this" or "I've done this before", etc. The fact is that he took actually took the time to do it and to prove it. He deserves the record and the congratulations and whatever publicity that may or may not come with it.

To all of those people who "could" do it, I'll be looking for the thread where you actually do it and when that happens I'll wish you luck.

Nice job Laak.

I worked in a sleep lab. The more REM-deprived you are, the quicker into the sleep cycle you fall into REM. Usually it doesn't happen until 25-35 mins in. BUT in experiments where they allowed lab rats to sleep but deprived them of REM sleep (waking them up as soon as they saw on the EKG machines that they were going into REM), then when they let the rats fall asleep, they would literally slip into REM immediately upon falling asleep. (Also, the rats eventually died from lack of REM sleep -- science still doesn't understand REM very well at all...but they know we need it to live.)

i dunno how he can stay awake for 155 hours sitting at a table. I mean like if your moving around and stuff its easier to stay awake but i get tired just from playing 4 hours of live poker
