What is the deal with this?

Ivey facebook post advertises a Go Fund Me for Kevmath. Says he donated 1k.

Kevmath was hating on Ivey's social media presence, so Ivey ships him some money.

This was an interesting donation on the link, probably just some fake account but kinda strange?

all phil ivey business endeavours seem to be so amateur and half-assed. the whole ivey poker thing was horribly done and failed of course. his new love for social media too is so non genuine. stick to poker, phil.

I don't think anybody thinks you're begging for charity or would think poorly of you for accepting a gift. Obv your choice either way.

Filling in the gaps here I assume there's some rumour in the community that Kevmath needs the cash so they start up the process. Kevmath wants to save some face and is very humble about it as ever, but I'm guessing the reason for the gofundme is legitimate and sincere so lets go with it and Kevmath can do with the money as he pleases.

Phil Ivey isn't trying to make you feel poor and helpless dude and nobody is looking down on you. It's a show of respect and gratitude. People give donations to other people on the internet all the time. Your net worth is irrelevant. Some guy tipped me $5 yesterday on reddit because I gave him some advice. I didn't get offended and refuse it because "i don't need your charity!" - I said thank you. Which is exactly what you should do.

I agree it seems somewhat weird and inappropriate to randomly create a fundraiser for a person for no apparent cause. Some people will get the impression that he's in some kind of financial trouble or can't support himself. It's not outragerous, but definately a bit weird.

I agree, even if this originated as an underhandedly calculated, petty, and spiteful thing that you didn't ask for or want, money is money, and if people in the poker community appreciate all you've done enough to want to pitch in some $ to you, I wouldn't protest if I was you
