When I stayed at the Bellagio there was a guard eyeballing room keys to use the elevator. Perhaps not always ??
Looking to see if you have some reusable plastic card is not the same as needing key access to the floors. Those guards are basically completely for show, keeping out only the random straggler.
Even at the Gold Coast they had a guard eyeballing key cards to use the lifts. No such thing at the Rio, unless you stay in the penthouse where the lift only takes you after a key has been swiped.
Should we start a petition for the WSOP to leave the Rio for 2015?
I realize that it would make things very difficult and they would possibly have to function between multiple casinos, but it seems the neglect of the Rio has become such a story it will/should lead to players choosing not to come.
Is it too impractical and instead we should have very concrete demands for what must change?
Would you be willing to say you wouldn't attend next year if either the venue weren't changed or said demands aren't met?

Heading to Rio next week. What's the big issue with no card needed for elevators?
Well, I'm not sure if it's a big issue, but the concern is that anyone could go to rooms (to rob), wouldn't have to be a hotel guest, and there would be no record of which card was used to use the elevator. Of course, I realize that system is not such a great help anyway. More just one small thing on top of many other things.

The only petition I'll sign is one for banning poker-related petitions. The WSOP is an entity that exists to make a profit from poker players. There just so happens to be tournaments with great rake/structures in world class hotels less than a mile or two away from the Rio during the month of June. If you're fed up with the Rio/WSOP then "petition" with your money and go support the Wynn or our friend Sheldon at the Venetian.
Quad was actually first choice when Harrahs moved the WSOP from Binions. The only fear was they would lose all their highroller baccarat/craps/blackjack action to Casino Royale next door. Rio property beings relatively isolated keeps the WSOP players on property.

I agree. Where would they hold it? I'm thinking Mandalay Bay convention center. Also, I thought the Rio owned the WSOP now. They need more booths and the Wsop merchandise was so expensive...geez $80 bucks for a T shirt. Very few items and ugly cheap crap from china? It seems as they want to make less money. Also why so cold? Everyone complaining. They want to lock the guy who runs the air in the freezer for a night. Lol
