wow.

I feel like this is something that I have seen in every live MTT I've ever played in, multiple times per event. People talk a lot and say a lot before they actually fold, and then they fold.

2 things, firstly, bollocks. Secondly just because other people do something doesn't make it right.

In a slight defense of this:

I think sometimes people who are relatively new to being televised try to do and say funny things for the camera and it doesn't always work out. For example, I can totally imagine being nervous with the cameras going and trying to look cool or funny and finding myself doing something I would never do in a real game.

Just want to play devil's advocate. When I played on Live At The Bike the first time it threw me mentally much more than I thought it would and I can imagine doing something stupid and regretting it. I find it hard to believe that Patrick wouldn't know this was frowned upon and would do it so blatantly with the cameras rolling, and think it's more likely he was trying to be funny/cool/weird and it went a little too far.

I was on a first date once. It was pretty awkward because she caught me attempting to pickpocket the waiter as he took our order. I tried to explain to her that I was just nervous and normally I would never do that. Surely that's more likely than me being an idiot and a thief. Suffice to say she never called me back.

Lots of people in this thread who are beyond certain about something that has a lot of ambiguity...especially where given the actions malice cannot be proven.

Agree with your second statement.

He said that he was folding, and then he looked at the dude for 12 seconds, didn't look like he actually was going to call at any point, and then begrudgingly folded.

Happy to be wrong if we can get some footage of pads doing this and then calling.

Couldn't it be a "You got it? (implying a question) or "You got it." (as in a I think you have it here), instead of "You got it" (implying you got it I fold) , it's not like he said the words 'I fold' , 'fold' , or put his cards towards the muck and pulled them back. This on top of him saying he had been joking around with this player all day on twitter I feel like it's not that likely to be malicious.

Also anyone who plays live has probably seen something ambiguous like this multiple times a session that you could be a nit about or just not care about and move on from / protect yourself from making mistakes due to someones random comment and make a comment if they are consistently doing this and you know it's malicious (pump faking for reactions etc)

Even if patrick said something like ' you win ' he could still begrudingly call and his statement meaning I think you win but I am calling light etc. It would be wrong if he said ' you win ' then pump faked throwing his cards in muck multiple times while staring at him then said 'fol' instead of fold and kept cards.

TLDR I think ppl are nit picking this because patrick comes across with really big ego and I think it is polarized on people on 2+2 liking him or not, so when a random low post acc makes a thread like this they pounce on it.

Also the knockout hand of the guy he 'angled' is at 2hr45min where he actually busts to patrick in spoiler link and he fist bumps patrick after so I'm sure he thought it was far from malicious.

It's clearly not a question when you listen to tone and he says "nice hand" right after it implying "you have it". The fact that he takes note of his opponents reaction(the grin+saying "strong") makes me think Pads had the intent to make his opponent think he won the hand when he had in fact not done so. To all the rest, I'm not sure you know what an angleshot is - it's using deceptive ways to gain an edge within the rulebook, otherwise it would just be cheating. Saying "you win" would clearly be very bad as well. It comes off as you are some type of Pads slappy who is just blindly defending him.

I think everyone would agree that it's an angleshot if it's just some random dude. Though in that case, there wouldn't be a thread about it, comes with the territory of being a minor celebrity on a niche online forum. It's probably not fair that the thread titles are essentially the same with Torelli when the situations are different in magnitudes, though.

Yeah I mean context... if they're good friends and have history I see nothing wrong with it. Not an angle just more of just messing around with a buddy at the table. A complete strange is another matter.

He's saying "you got it" implying that he is folding. "it" meaning obviously the pot. Clear angle. Fanbois will say it ain't, but it is

How do you compare this to the elaborate angle of tortellini even?
Also dammit, why didn't we see cards

That looked like some Hollywood acting from Pad's opponent, a little too obvious? Please poker Jesus let him ha e a bluff here, is there any way to find out?

And yeah clear angle , Pat made it super obvious didn't even touch his cards said it clear and loud. And even announced he did that and that he got a read right after what are you guys discussing, he wasn't trying to hide it . And that Hollywood looking reaction from the guy... Are we sure there's no history / these guys are just goofing around ?

The thing is, you just can't do anything like this online. So people transition to playing live and they've heard of people trying weird tricks (which are likely all angles or borderline) When I first started playing in 2001, I read an article in some magazine talking about how someone had tabled their hand before the river action was complete to try to get a read or confuse their opponent. Now, I personally wouldn't feel comfortable doing this since it might induce them to expose their hand thinking you called. People might hear of something like that and then try something similar on a whim as a relative live amateur.

Kinda funny 2p2 let people like VOt and Chomp be members when they have one sole purpose which is to attack me/party. Definitely makes me want to avoid the forum at all costs.

You guys really think he was going to muck when I said "you got it" he was doing his pretending to muck to get a reaction from me an make himself look weak, the typical "look weak, act weak" I was obviously already folding was just giving him a little bit of fun.

We played and talked and laughed and bantered all day, check out his bust out hand, he takes his glasses off, smiles at me, laughs and then bluff jams. The tv table all day was full of us and everybody battling and having fun. The table didn't change through the whole day because of it.

Like I said, I have 63o and not calling, were on the bubble and it's hand for hand, I can take an extra minute on the river to get action later in the tournament as he's going to be chip leader and on my left it's very important I get live reads/tells.

When I explained to the table what the commentators thought they were all like wtf, especially villain in the hand, he laughed and was like wtf

Akkari on Twitter
I honestly didnt see anything special, just some talk trying to get info.

Fwiw 2 hands later I call a river bet and say "King" the guy mucks and I show my hand, easiest angle in the world to just muck behind.

Obviously you guys don't play live poker, never ever muck your hand until your opponents visibly folded his hand.

Hahaha just watched it back and I fold like 5 seconds later after smiling at him. Commentators don't get it because they obviously don't play/know poker. I had chips in my hand and was folding and just hadn't even got to my cards yet. It's crazy. If you think this is angling seriously never play live poker you will be traumatised.

1) He looks genuinely confused and not pretending to do anything. He seems confused because you implied verbally and physically that you are going to fold your hand in the next 0.2s or so.
2) How is it obvious that you were always folding?
