Degenyamine was a real ballsrider. Why wouldn’t you play on house money

What happened to Barry G? He aged like 25 years in 5.

Dani Stern

HS thread shows he's the biggest PLO loser this year at -800k. And hsdb shows he's never been in the black for hsplo, the only game he's been playing for years.

I vaguely remember him 4 or 5 years ago saying he bought a house with his poker winnings.
Also remember him saying he had a bad run at PLO ($25/$50) ish stakes, saying "I lost 50 buy ins, but that's pretty normal (variance) at these stakes".

I was thinking is it, really?

It instinctively feels like he's a good size winner in the game overall, but not much info now on his poker whereabouts.

Perhaps, he grew up into a Dairy Crunch and then one day went out sunbathing in his newly acquired house garden and simply melted away.

50 buyins is super standard. You can even check this using this website;

http://pokerdope.com/poker-variance-calculator/

With a WR of 10bb/100 and a std dev of 200 (Might be high for hu PLO, its close though) You will have a 50 buyin downswing 25% of the time and a 100 bi ds 5.67% of the time.

Also Ben still or used to in the last two years, play some 5c omaha or O8, mostly hu again. I got the impression from the hours this was recreational for him.

I heard that Benyamine was playing as low as 2/5 in Ceasars Palace at one stage.

I get that one can lose 50 buy ins at that probability over a big sample. I should have mentioned the blasé way he stated it as if over a smallish sample. If it was, losing 50 buy ins is more likely to be down to being out-skilled or playing badly (plus some run bad).

Nothing wrong with this by the way, the games obviously got progressively tougher circa 2012 compared to say 2007 and if as it seems likely he banked a huge chunk of profits and got out then he is/was smarter than 95% of other poker players.

I ran 36.5 buy-ins below EV vs a single opponent in a single session in PLO HU ($3/$6):

Okay fair point, it can happen, however running x number of buy ins below EV is slightly
different to losing that many buy ins if having a playing edge.

I suspect that losing 50 buy ins over a small sample (HU) has a lot to do with one player's
confidence increasing and them maintaining or even improving their level and the other's lessening and them going on tilt.

It's not that hard to keep playing when the yellow line keeps going up because you are not really doubting yourself. Unless of course it's your last money and hitman is coming to collect the money or your life.

Grundy was probably the biggest winner on betfair poker when it was a stand alone site. He is married now and travels world. He randomly won a WCOOP a couple years ago just for fun. I assure everyone he is one of the most successful hu plo players of all time, but he doesn't need huge swings chasing something in a suboptimal enviroment, he's already set for life and people are better these days. Most people in the UK scene know him and can confirm he got it quietly.

YOu just don't understand the variance of the game, plo has sick swings even in easy games. A lot of big name pros went on sick downswings in those high stakes PLO games. Coinflips do crazy things to line graphs man!

What about that Matt Marifiotti dude? Played a lot on Stars back in the day then went mental and had that weird TV show made about him? Can't remember his SN.

Oh and Nutsinho? I remember watching his videos. Just seemed to disappear. I wonder how many of these guys who ran up their roll to a couple mill went completely bust and now have normal lives?

Dani Stern posted on twitter yesterday (?) that he was out of the poker world. With bitcoin at $5,600 I can imagine he's entered the crypto world. Hope he made out good on other sites, lower stakes and staking because he's had quite a rough couple of years thanks to Berri.

I swear I saw Freddy Deeb sitting with 4-5 locals at the Hilton poker room in Aruba in July. I showed a picture of him from google to my wife (no knowledge of Deeb) and she was like "oh wow that's definitely the same guy". My gut says there's no way it was him but idk for sure. I didn't really want to approach him especially if I was wrong.

Matt Marifiotti

He has videos on youtube talking about the illuminati and the mafia are out to get him, Search on youtube for them.

He went missing for ages and an old friend of his started a campaign, Matt came out from hiding said he was fine but his parents were trying to screw him over.

Nutsinho, He more or less quit heads up poker, think he still plays tournaments.

I hope he does another podcast with Joey when he feels up to it. I've always been perplexed (and im sure many other spectators are too) about why play so high, for so few hands, against incredibly tough competition (presumably backed/ pieced out too)... when someone as highly skilled as him can play lower, have 100% of himself, play many hands, against weak competition...

Is Brian Townsend still crying in Santa Barbara over all the money he lost years back?

Didn't Tom Dwan briefly appear out from under the hole he's been hiding in?

Was kind of a big deal in the poker scene...
He played on Poker After Dark for three 5-6 hour sessions in September and played a PLO session a week or so ago

I saw him at Caesars Palace in a 1/2 PLO game over Kentucky Derby weekend. I know the floor there and they confirmed it was him.
