I kinda lost interest when they announced the huge delay before the final table. It would have required a very stacked final table to sustain my interest.

Sad to see Matusow out. Not only is he playing pretty good but he also seems more likable these days. Perhaps drugfree?

I actually agree big time on both points. I used to find Matusow completely annoying, and he may still be, but I'd rather watch him than whatever 9 random people make the FT.

It's like putting off the World Series for 3 months after the Royals and Padres make it. Just because you shove a hundred stories about the team's backup catchers doesn't mean I'm going to want to watch them play. Cantu is a name I guess, but I don't find him all that interesting or likable.

Glad to see Mike have a good run. I was hoping he made it to the FT. That would have been fun to watch.

He talked a bit on his brothers show yesterday, sounds like he took it ok:

It's sad that probably half the field left at this point are average to sub-par players.

with this deep run i think matusow might have cemented himself as one of the best tourny players ever- he almost reached the ft in 2005 main event, he goes deep in a ton of wpt events and has 4 bracelets

Lets be rutally honest here. It's good for poker that Matusow does not make the final table if broad issues are looked at. Poker has an image problem. Yeah, it has a morality problem if you're a religious zealot out to paint poker players as society's degenerates and corrupt addicts needing help. But, those are pockets of people. The mass public when viewing poker as an industry look through the lens of image.

Gambling is gambling. Most people of above average intelligence know that wall street is gambling. Investing xxx money in a business endeavor is gambling. All things with high risk and hence high reward is at its roots gambling. Gambling becomes fairly accepted by the public when the person engaging in the activity has available to him some degree of information on which to base decisions AND there is a high degree of fairness (ie fair markets). Anyway, lets just say that even after people are convinced that there's a fair amount of skill involved in poker AND there is a fair play surrounding it, poker STILL has an image problem partly due to its history and partly due to degrees of ignorance.

SO, if you buy the image problem, Matusow being a part poster boy for the industry and game is not a good thing.

Of course, if you could care less about the industry's image and care more about the person, yes, I do see how people could want Matusow there. He's super fun to watch, extremely good at playing the game, offers great entrtainment, and he's brutally pure and candid to a fault. In other words, he's super likable and its very hard to root against the guy.

WSOP was split into two to use that period in between to market poker to the public and make its image better. Matusow parading around talk show circuit and mainstream media talking about himself (which is more than likely to have occurred) would've been disastrous to poker.

But, yeah, even with all of hat considered, I was hoping to see the guy make it to the tp of the mountain - because its a great story for sure.

U guys are thinking with your c*cks and not your brain. You know she thinks she is way above anybody as most hot girls do... I'd much rather see any name pro win than a hot girl who hasn't proven anything previously other than the fact she looks good and is currently running hot.

And who really cares about poker image? We are all gambling and that isn't the best image to start with. Mike as stated in another article, has always put his heart out and never afraid to show the world who he truly is. Something I doubt Tiffany would ever do if it made her look even the slightest bit worst than what she has going for her.

He did ft in 05, as well as in 01. And I'm pretty sure he just has three bracelets.
