i never understood, why would you need to tip in general or tip more if you rich.

like tipping a waitress when she brings you a drink.. its her job to do that.

why dont you go tip an airline captain/pilot when he lands safely or a bus driver?

just because its out of norm you dont do that but because tipping a waitress is something of a norm you do?

what a bunch of sheep

Yeah I don't get the whole "expecting" to have to tip, seems like more of an American thing.
People get a job, know they will be paid £x an hour to do their job. To expect people to give them free money, for the job they out of free will chose and contracted to, is borderline pathetic.

I don't tip because society says I have to. All right, if someone deserves a tip, if they really put forth an effort, I'll give them something a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, it's for the birds. As far as I'm concerned, they're just doing their job.

Because unlike most of europe service jobs in the US often get paid under minimum wage with an expectation that they'll make enough money from tips

yeah, not tipping here in the US is pretty dickish, the service people get less than minimum wage and rely on tips to eeek out a living. i vary between 15-20% depending on service, usually 20% as it's easier math

on the jordan thing, the guy was the absolute nuts on the court. i'd love to play a game of bball with the guy even today, just to see what he brings. off the court in a personal setting, however, i'm not one to want to hang around a complete douchebag, regardless of what his other accomplishments might be.

Because these guys get paid more than minimum wage. They can work forty hours a week and have enough to pay their bills. Waitresses get $3/hr before tips (where I live). If they didn't get any tips and worked full time, they'd be making about $500/mo before taxes. Who can live on that?

Maybe it's not fair that the customers have to make up the pay difference for the servers. Maybe the restaurant owners should pay better. It doesn't really matter in the end, because the owners don't pay enough and that's the way it's going to stay.

When you go out to eat, you KNOW that the servers are being paid slave wages. If you are a human being, it is up to you to tip so that they can make a living wage. If you can't do that, then sit your ass home and eat a TV dinner. You can keep your tip, and save money on the meal too.

I personally hate tipping off, lucky that we dont rly tip on europe, not my ****ing problem if someone cant make money without my tips

are you jokers serious about not tipping or is it a level? if serious please die in a grease fire you cheap *******s

most of the things i have to tip on, i get expensed... like dinners and cab rides. so i always tip super fat. a lot of people don't deserve it, and even after gettin a fat tip (on a $11 cab ride i give 15, or i always give 20% on dinners), are still dicks. but 80-90% of the people are appreciative or deserve it. plus it costs me nil lol.

Tipping is a great system that offers incentive to do a good job, allows customers to not pay if they get poor service, and allows the workers to get instantly rewarded for improvement. If you don't tip you should tell the waiter/waitress that before the meal so they can spend more time and effort providing me with great service that I'm willing to pay for (if you are visiting the US obv. If workers arent payed the same method elsewhere obv It's fine)
