Gambling specialists said it was likely that any casino-supported legalization would be limited to Internet poker because it was considered the least threatening to brick-and-mortar casinos. Internet poker already had the backing of some in the casino industry, and was seen as a new and lucrative source of revenue for the casino companies.
can someone explain their theory about how it is less threatening?

For one thing, the poker room in a typical casino generates only a relatively small percentage of their overall gambling revenue, so there is less to be potentially threatened by.

Yeah like oak said Casino's generally only have poker rooms to draw in people who like to play poker (but then go and blow away all their money on table games/other house games etc). Hence why the poker room is normally the hardest room to find, or it's hidden in the back/basement whatever in most casinos (not true in all cases but in most).

That was the first reaction I had. Barely read the rest as the authors credibility/knowledge of the subject seemed lacking.

With all the money pokerstars/fulltilt and others make i am surprised the haven't done more for the poker cause.

money equals power in washington and online poker rooms have a lot of it. Something should have been done already to help online poker!

Sloppily written at best. It is illegal to play in some states. It is illegal to run an online casino anywhere in the country.
