Windows does not allow directly installing the recent Windows 8.1 upgrade from a bootable USB so you'll have to forgo the benefits of that upgrade. However, there are convoluted workarounds available.

No. XP is not supported by Microsoft anymore and no more security holes will be fixed. Upgrade to 8.1 or 7. Also see post 1298 for comprehensive measures if you travel a lot.

Well a guy just had 250k confiscated from Stars. They may or may not be in the right, but most the people in the thread seem to initially always jump to Stars side because apparently they can do no wrong.

This thread needs to be a reminder that stars should not be trusted.

They should in fact need to give detailed reasoning of why an account was closed. A vague answer or even silence like they have done in this thread is a ****ing joke.

I am currently on page 6. So far I do not think it was a scam targeting poker players but some long term fraud that has been going on for a long time by different gangs in hotels all around the world. The problem with fraud is whilst it is simple to the fraudsters there are very few people in the police who understand what is going on and don't know what to look for. Millions is getting stolen but who want's the job of investigating it? Imagine the stretch on resources at the local police station trying to deal with it. It needs a specialist task force but do they want to spend the tax payers money on this?

A friend of mine was head of security at one of the major online travel companies. He said companies have to do all the investigative work themselves then pass the information on to police who even with a dossier often done nothing. In one case he contacted the police and said 'in two weeks time flight number +++ has 12 passengers on tickets booked with various stolen credit cards. The police done nothing. In the unlikely event people are arrested and it goes to court most juries simply don't understand the jargon they here and will struggle to find someone guilty.

Jeans I think you should be happy you have not suffered financially and know that you have probably saved a lot of other people this happening to them as they will take safety precautions. It is definitely a police matter and people outside of poker should be made aware of this, people go away stay at a hotel and use cards in heaps of places. When they later get scammed the last place they expect it to be will be the hotel they are staying at. Right now to read the other 80 pages!

The hotel guest probably never knew what hit him. When he tried to get online using his five-star hotel’s WiFi network, he got a pop-up alerting him to a new Adobe software update. When he clicked to accept the download, he got a malicious executable instead.

What he didn’t know was that the sophisticated attackers who targeted him had been lurking on the hotel’s network for days waiting for him to check in. They uploaded their malware to the hotel’s server days before his arrival, then deleted it from the hotel network days after he left.

That’s the conclusion reached by researchers at Kaspersky Lab and the third-party company that manages the WiFi network of the unidentified hotel where the guest stayed, located somewhere in Asia. Kaspersky says the attackers have been active for at least seven years, conducting surgical strikes against targeted guests at other luxury hotels in Asia as well as infecting victims via spear-phishing attacks and P2P networks.
