it's gonna be a fight of sites vs bots/assists
and/or it will take a turn of invite-only clubs and live poker

Might this mean that the companies might do more to stop it?

Yes, but there is only so much that they can do.

SKYNET already exists. It's an NSA metadata program that targets individuals for extrajudicial execution.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SKYNET...lance_program)

Whoever named it has a sick sense of humor or were trying to obfuscate the program so when it's googled the terminator skynet is the first result.

Obvious news is obvious

If you haven't been aware of the imminent death of online poker as we know it due to AI, then you aren't very smart

Nobody plays chess online for money vs strangers.

exactly. the small club model works. the clubs who can streamline the entry-process will do very well

sites better start doing what they should have done a long time ago and figure this out. They have a huge financial incentive to protect the integrity of the games, so who knows they might just surprise up

Your link goes nowhere.

Also, bots are not currently a huge problem in online poker. Washed up players are just paranoid as ****.

Thanks I fixed it. Yeah if you live in Pakistan or Afghanistan or wherever the bots you worry about are sniping people from the skies. And if you're a male aged 16-70 the US government automatically classifies you as an "enemy combatant" after you've been killed. Collateral damage is real. Bombing wedding parties because one attendees cell phone pinged off a tower near Al Qaeda headquarters. I'm not for terrorism but if a foreign country bombed my whole family to death and we weren't at war so that I could sign up and fight them in the military, I'd fight that country tooth and nail. Blowback is real, we're creating more terrorists than we can kill.

Ya but show wants to play chess, it's a 1000+ year old war sim in a world where there are way better war sims there that have been around for a quarter of a century. War isn't fought turn based lol and the variables you deal with are elementary.

I used elementary in a sentence, I'm just like Sherlock Holmes!!

Nice catch.

This is actually pretty hilarious.

To varying degrees, the sites have only paid lip service to bot problem.

Now that an analyst has tied to companies stock price / risk factors to bots, this will now have full attention of sites CEOs, CFOs, and Board members.

Not that any of them really care about bots (or even know what they are), but they care deeply about their compensation packages which are heavily weighted to stock price.

If this is a one off analyst report then not much will change. If this is a topic that gets traction with other analysts following their stocks, I'd suspect you'll start to see more serious focus on the bot problem. Morgan Stanley is not exactly a no name firm, so this alone should get some attention.

Yes. And for the financially unaware: This will also (or rather, the mechanism which makes this have an impact on the stock prices is) make financing/running the companies more expensive and thus have an immediate day to day impact on the running of the company. It's a big deal.

Companies (and countries and every other credit rated organization) go to great lengths to keep their credit ratings good. It's literally money in/out for the company. This is essentially a fine for not caring about things that lenders think they should care more about lol

good point about credit rating.

Its hard to comprehend the impact machine learning (as it fully develops over the next decade) is going to impact many industries and parts of society (poker bots about number about #600 on list of Top 1000 impacts)

Much the same way it was impossible to forecast how a simple protocol (TCP/IP) would forever changed the world.

1) A top online crusher was accused of cheating in here (it was retracted)
2) Because of the news in the thread you're reading right now
3) Because with the games drying up so much, it's now getting patently obvious that some sites have players WAY too strong for the stake they're playing. Some of whom, when you search for them on "the Russian PTR", don't exist. They've been around for ages and yet it has NO hands on them.

AI/assistance has always been around, but now since tools like PIO/Monker + the fact there simply aren't as many recs as before, the sky is falling slowly but surely. The Morgan Stanley downgrading shows this - it's as clear as day in the article.
