Yeah. For a week or so now. All websites down, slots manual, checkin manual, look at all MGM properties in Bravo. I guess maybe they have a moral victory for not paying ransom, but they losing $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Yeah, I knew the systems were down but didn’t know every cash out was a hand pay. Do they just have a crap ton of slot attendants everywhere or are patrons just having to wait forever?

According to the hackers all their servers and data are inaccessible to MGM. Which lines up with the evidence IRL.

I'll bet the insurance co is calling most of the shots, and I'll also bet they've involved some form of govt entity by now. If our govt wants you bad enough, they'll find you. An attack like this on our financial or medical system could cripple us, hopefully the right people take this seriously.

MGM contacted the FBI immediately and I'm pretty sure the hacker group is known. It doesn't matter as the cybers are locked and hackers have the keys.

The FBI is notoriously bad at cracking crime rings that they didn't have a major part in creating with their own agents, informants and operatives. The best way to protect your business from cyber attacks is to hire an experienced and competent IT staff instead of cutting corners. Maybe after this debacle, MGM will realize this.

Lmao you’re severely overestimating the government’s ability to catch cyber criminals. Idk if you’re aware but organizations in the financial and medical sectors have been dealing with ransomware attacks for a while now. The majority of these hackers are solidly out of our governments reach, even if they could identify them.

big leak there as you can go with an id and charge to a fake room it seems as their system might not be able to see whos room it really is.

big mess for mgm, as everytime you wanna cash out, its handpay procedure.
Also a big leak
Being hacked for over a week bleeding tons of money and pissing of customers lol

What a scumbag company. This is great to see.

The hackers won't be in the US so authorities there won't even have jurisdiction to catch them.

It's a fact that the perps are rarely caught in ransomware attacks.

Fact is they barely ever catch them. So they're either unable to catch them or refuse to.

Besides that, to actually physically catch those people that might require some kind of spec ops (aka military) in various foreign countries. Doesn't sound very likely to me..

Yeh going after hackers seems pretty pointless. I'm sure, if they put their minds and resources into it, tracing them wouldn't be too hard for government agencies/cyber security groups. Actually getting to them when they're likely hiding out in places like China is a different matter.

Also, if you do get to them, there's a good chance they're just foot soldiers, hired or forced to work for someone else, and any paid ransom or money stolen is bouncing around other middlemen/shell organisations/launderers/etc., making it practically untraceable and unrecoverable.

Defence/prevention seems the best bet, but is expensive to implement well, and, if it's done very well, shouldn't really be noticeable, so I'm sure could appear to a non-tech savvy casino exec that they're paying a lot for nothing.

I mean, the feds are offering up to $10M for information leading to the arrest of some of the most notorious cyber criminals.

Seems way easier to just give the feds the info and let them do the dirty work, and collect the bounty versus trying to playout some Rambo fantasy.

The fact that this still going on... and the fact that their VMWare hypervisors were immediately encrypted when MGM responded...

Let's hope MGM has secured offsite backups. Let's hope said backups haven't been impacted.

I found out more about how they hacked in. They found an employee’s LinkedIn post and used the info in the post to call MGM IT claiming they were the employee and needed to change their password. IT said ok and here we are.

I think we knew it was from a LinkedIn post but didn’t know just how stupid easy it was.

I’m guessing there will be some new IT protocols within MGM and at least one IT worker will need to be updating their resume to find a new job soon.

there is a hacker named Gummo on Youtube who gives a fascinating interview on Soft White Underbelly. He went from living in his car to setting up the network for the NYSE and wound up mining over 8000 bitcoins ($7 billion). His specialty was/is finding hackers and he goes to work 9-5 everyday because it fulfills him. I wouldn't want him coming after me.

Maybe a stupid question but how do MGM know who has reservations and how much the fee is?

I'm due to fly out in a week from Ireland. Pretty long flight to get there and find out we cant get our room?

You might want to consider staying at a property not owned by MGM.

Print out a copy of your reservation confirmation email with all of the information and take it with you. I haven't heard of anyone lately (or maybe even ever) being turned away because of a cancelled reservation out of all of this mess.
