Buddy of mine was playing in Palm Beach awhile back before Maurice got famous, and Maurice approaches him with a sob story about needing $5K to get home, feed his kids, etc. They exchange info, he loans him the cash, and not soon after Maurice starts winning every other WSOPC tournament. My friend tries to get ahold of him privately multiple times, of course with no success. Tries to call him out on Twitter, but everybody has such a hard-on for Maurice for some reason that nobody pays attention. Guy is total scum and likely freerolled into his success off of the backs of regular people.

My favorite Maurice Hawkins thread is the one where some random guy played at the WSOP a year or 2 back and made a thread about "cliques" in poker and how Maurice was talking down to him about his play, was a total dick to him the whole time and the other "pros" at the table were all laughing at what he was saying and trying to be his best BFF. I believe Maria Ho was one of the people at the table but she disputed the characterization of how she acted. Anyone got a link? It's worth a read for the LOL's.

I saw a 2008 San Diego Circuit 14K ring go for best offer on Ebay... something below $3000 ($650 scrapped gold price)

That seemed quite high to me based on other rings that I have seen sell...

What is the metal content on the modern rings?

He'd have to pony up some swag for me to loan him anything.

I have seen him at a couple of events but have not played with him.

No reason with his talent and winnings to be in such hard times.

Some guys you just get a feel for... some kinda insecurity that makes him a financial and ethical loser.

He went from betting $600 a game in 2018 to 6k a game in 2019 i think that is the main problem probably worse at table games also.
