Of course, payments took way too long and it looked like they were trying to cover it up for as long as they could.).

The UB scandal was obv a much bigger deal. Huge amounts of money was involved, it looks like a ton of people were involved, the cover up attempt was huge and is still going on to some extent, and a lot of people say they were cheated but haven't been paid.

Of course, separating the two scandals is pretty silly when there's basically no difference between the two sites/companies anymore.

The current CEO of AP/UB admitted in an interview that AP signed a written deal with a perpetrator never to reveal his identity. UB has at least revealed one alleged superuser thus far. So I'm not particularly comfortable with giving AP credit for handling it better.

Maybe I'm being dumb, but I really don't care at all if they name the perpetrator. I just want all money paid back (estimated liberally + interest) and enough transparency to make it clear that they've done that and that this won't happen again.

Really tough to make it clear that it won't happen again without naming the perpetrators (especially if they continue to have some connection to the companies). Also somewhat difficult to make it clear that all the money has been paid back (you could try to do it by screen names, which UB still has yet to reveal fully, but that would just create issues about whose screennames they were and whether those people had access to other screennames, etc.). I just don't think you can establish that the right thing was done without complete disclosure. And of course at this point I don't think either site could ever establish that to any halfway intelligent person's satisfaction given the way both have handled it. Not to mention I just think non-disclosure of the identities creates a terrible precedent/incentive -- you can steal via online poker, keep the money, and never have your identity revealed.

online poker sites will never be able to prove that they are 100% 'clean'... another sad reality we have to live with just like when you turned 6 and found out there is no Santa Claus

LABOR DAY NO-REBUY WEEKEND
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 1998
$100 BUY-IN, NO-LIMIT HOLD’EM

CARDS DON’T SPEAK
By Mike Paulle

No one wanted it to end like this.

There were 227 entrants in the $100 Buy In No-Limit Hold’em event, for a
total prize pool of $22,700. 2 tables would be paid, which was a total of 18
players.

.......

With three players left, something happened that no one wanted. Usually in
poker the cards speak. Whoever can show the best hand wins. Tonight, a ruling
had to be made that took the cards away from a player and insured he would
finish in 3rd place.

Mark Seif had been the prohibitive chip leader through most of the final
table. He seemed unstoppable on his way to the title. Then the wheels started
to come off.

First, Mark seemed upset by the hand where Nick Sanchez had pocket Aces
behind him. On that hand Seif lost a third of his chips to Sanchez. Then, in
the small blind, Seif just called Sanchez’ big blind. This was like Mark so
Nick said to him “Are you trying to suck me in?” Mark said “Yes.” Immediately,
Sanchez went all in with a 4 5 offsuit. Seif called with the A K of Clubs.

The flop came with a 3 6 and the turn was a 2. For the first time at the
final table, Mark Seif lost his chip lead, then he lost his cool. Swearing
repeatedly, evidently, Mark spit at the dealer. (Others say they saw this, I
didn’t) Mark denied it, calling everyone who said he spit at the dealer a liar.

Unable to stop swearing, Seif was given a 20 minute penalty by tournament
director Dave Baudoin that practically insured he would be blinded out of the
tournament. With 4 minutes left in his penalty time, Mark Seif’s last chips
were put into the pot. Since he wasn’t at the table to turn over his cards, he
lost his last hand. Going on tilt had cost Seif a chance at the title.

In the strangest play of a very strange night, Eskimo Clark nearly gave Seif
2nd place while out on penalty time. Nick Sanchez had about a 5-3 chip lead
heads up. When a 10 high flop came, Sanchez went all in.

And Clark called with 10 9!!!

Clark said later, “I didn’t think he had anything.” Well, Sanchez had
something, a Q 10. Only perfect, perfect saved Eskimo from adding to his
already enormously cororful history. The 4 paired on the turn and an Ace came
on the river to force a split pot. Soon thereafter a money deal was made giving
Sanchez the title and $6,990. Clark took $6,400.

Official Money Winners
1st Nick Sanchez $8,850
2nd Eskimo Clark 4,540
Mendoza
3rd Mark Seif 2,270

5th Shao Hu 1,020

Yeah, he sounds like a politician stumbling over his talking points. Maybe its the lawyer in him that makes me geared towards not trusting him.

Is "tranparency" the new b.s. buzz word or what? In a perfect world, we'd get to see the complete list. Sigh...

Hmmm....me thinks asking Seif about AP or UB is like asking...Manson about the sanctity of life. Who would ask this guy anything, he is as bad as the others and loved to show his power with chat bans after berating average players. He is a scum bag, and the only thing people should ask him is how does he look at himself in the morning.
