Phil Ivey? The amount of hype before the FT was insane.

No hype yet... let's see if Conan, Leno and Letterman book Cada as a guest.

The final hand was a very big thing for all of poker, and ended the best possible way of Joe winning over Darvin. If Darvin would have won, poker would have been made illegal, a game of luck and gambling forever and you would have been banned from every site but the live ones where there would have been pretty juicy games, though they also might have been made illegal, the end of poker, world wide. That was at stake.

Joe is a young online pro, even a heads up specialist and PokerStars player, that's great for poker, great for us.

The fact that Darvin got to the final table and even second, is scary, as well as the luck dominating the final table, it being so the opposite of real poker, it was B2B poker. So, I am still shaken, just hoping the super dogs won't see it.

And the Ivey's 88 blunder and his final table mortality, good for poker, like Darvin was and the final table hands in too many cases. But it all might have went up to as well as it could have, being a great success, but I am still scared, and we did got saved by the bell, just Joe was standing between the end of poker and us, that close it was.

He will be good for poker, but no more so than any of the others. They each have their plusses and minuses.

Maybe ? He seemed incredibly nervous and from what they said on audio feed, very uncomfortable in front of media and crowds. Even with 8 million at stake, I doubt it's the magnitude of money or anything regarding poker that made him nervous as he has played so much already. Think he may just be young and not a great public speaker. He's a nice kid, hopefully he grows more comfortable in his position. To be an ambassador, PR skills go a long way.

I guess no is the right answer because whatever has the worse percentage always wins.

An A-list celebrity would ignite a second boom.

It will for 1 reason. It was a lead story this morning on the radio. Ivey was a key talking point but the 21 year old winning 8.5 million was the second best story line. When the outside world talks about poker, then it is good for poker. The last ME winner they talked about was Greg Raymer, which was the year after Moneymaker, and was the only reason they talked about it.

All that just to see him go out without any impact at all in the final table.

So, outside the poker media, there was very little interest before the Main Event. Is that right?

I don't think that would have changed if Ivey had won. He would have done a Leno/Letterman interview and a few other things, but isn't that commonplace now?

I expect the WSOP Main Event winner to make a handful of TV appearances after winning. Anybody who wins $8.5 million for doing anything is going to be interesting enough to do a few interviews shortly after winning. But, that's not hype or real interest outside the poker world. That's just TV shows trying to fill five to ten minutes of airtime with something mildly interesting before they move on to the next mildly interesting topic.

good in what way?
If you mean good as in bringing people to the game .. its an obvious no.
Cada brings no new blood to the game, because most young people had already been drawn to poker, and if the moneymaker boom/eastgate win didn't reel them in, i dont think joe cada will.
Better publicity if saout won, more euro players.

Only in the poker world. The average carbon blob has no clue who Phil Ivey is and wouldn't have cared if he won. An Ivey win would not have caused any sort of a boom.
