Maybe it comes down to the accent you are used to. We are used to all sorts of UK accents from all countries. Obv Americans are not

I love him as a commentator and he seems like a super nice guy. I agree with the above, Honestly think he he made some of the 48 hour partypoker cash games. definitely cares about the game, is funny and works well with another pro in the booth to bounce ideas off.

Personally I don't understand the hate towards him whatsoever

Is this the guy with the loud overbearing laugh that lasts throughout the broadcast?

Doesn't have his poker fundamentals in check, but is a super likeable guy with a genuine love and excitement for the game. Always enjoy him in the booth.

Hope he ships! GL, Mr. May!

I agree with this. The only poker commentators I don't like are the ones who literally don't know a thing about the game, like Colin Murray on the early EPTs and Barry Tompkins (I think) who used to do the aussie millions coverage before Grub Smith. Note that both those guys quickly disappeared once more and more people got to understand watching poker on tv.

Yes Jesse can be a bit OTT at times but I still think he's a good commentator

it has nothing to do with his accent and everything to do with his cringe-worthy personality. he seems like a really nice guy but i can't for the life of me figure out how someone can enjoy him as a commentator. he laughs at his own (terrible) jokes for like 5 minutes straight, ffs!

He is a great ambassador for the game. One of nicest guys I've met in poker.

He does a lot of good things behind the scenes that he doesn't publicise and people don't hear about.

it started in '99, so by 90's, you mean 1999

Too much hate itt. He MAY be a little all over the place commentary wise, but he's got a positive attitude at least. And that accounts for a lot imo. Vamooooo!

Didn't realise Jesse was so polarising.

I'll echo what people have said about him re Late Night Poker - I'll always have a soft spot for the guy. And he played a huge role in getting British people interested in Hold 'Em and boosting the poker economy.

Hope he runs well.

He hams it up for the commentary, which is not everyone's cup of tea (personally I enjoy it), but he is one of the nicest guys in poker. Very funny and much cleverer than he likes to pretend.

I was lucky enough to be on the same table for a few hours, and he was great entertainment. Great to see a real lover of the game have his day in the sun.

Nothing but love for Jesse.

What happened in the Irish Open then? I assume he didn't go on to win.

He was lying third going into day 3 but ended up 17th for 5550 euros. Not huge money but his biggest cash to date.

Sorry, but Tuck and May are two peas in a pod. They should get together and have a hyperbole contest.

Not a fan of his commentary but he appeals to the masses for sure.

Can also confirm he is an extremely cool dude IRL.

As a big fan of the Sid Waddell style of commentry, I can fully appreciate Jesse May's ramblings.

Much better to have an overenthusiastic erudite commentator than some of the "experts" that we've been exposed to on British TV.

Do I need to mention Robert Williamson the Turd?

I had the chance to do live commentary with him at some WPT event, he was super cool and great to work with. I think there are many worse commentators out there.

jungleman is about to make an obv fold, not showing any indication that he might raise, and jesse will scream something like:

COULD 'THE JUNGLEMAN' RAISE HERE?
HE'S NOT GONNA DO IT IS HE?
'THE JUNGLEMAN'
IS HE?
IS HE?
IS HE THAT SICK?
*jungleman folds*
