HS backgammon/poker IRS dispute HS backgammon/poker IRS dispute

Cool article, thanks

1. Not really a ton to do with poker other than the loser had been known to play HS poker in the Maguire game

2. That second paragraph makes my eyes bleed

3. When you follow the link in the first paragraph (72 hour backgammon session) it takes you to an article about Jimmy Connors

4. Why is Gores (the loser of the match) withholding the money for the IRS?

5. This article needs an editor pretty bad

A lot of the law written for the IRS is black and white, superpower type stuff. I suspect the Feds served a garnishment order directing that the money be paid to them.

it is relevant to poker if the IRS starts trying to tax visiting players from tax treaty countries.

Did this guy say "oh I owe taxes on that. Here's 12 million."?

lol, I would have loved to hear that conversation at the end of the match.

lol @ people who still pay income tax, just STOP, there is no law requiring you to pay taxes.

IRS isnt event part of the government, but they work together to brainwash this country because they control like 90% of the media. taxes are always mentioned on the news and on the radio constantly.

money is earned in one way or another, does IRS earn money? NO they simply take it.

some of you will disagree with me, thats fine. usually the ones that disagree with me are ones who have been paying taxes forever and dont want to face the truth at this point.

what could go wrong

Gus Hansen should get in on this action. He's supposed to be a world-class backgammon player.

No, those that disagree with you like to live in a country with roads, bridges, schools, other infrastructure, law enforcement, a fire department, water and land management, national defense, income security, health care and health research, science/space/technology research, etc. just to name a few.....

And no, 'IT' doesn't work without those things. And no, we shouldn't just fend for ourselves and I am not interested in having my own 'compound' to protect myself and my family because you know, like, you know we have the right to bear arms.

People that make these types of statements are 'usually' the most ill informed, conspiracy theorist, whack jobs.

PAYING TAXES IN NOT THE ISSUE, IT IS THE MANAGEMENT OF THE TAXES THAT WE PAY THAT IS THE ISSUE. I have absolutely no issue with paying taxes. I have an issue with what is being done with our tax dollars and how it is being used by the current and previous administrations. Those are two completely separate issues.

LOL. Wesley Snipes tried to follow "financial" and "legal" advice such as yours and ended up spending almost 3 years in federal prison when the IRS disagreed with his contention that there is no law that requires paying income tax. But you hold on to your beliefs anyway. After all, what could go wrong?

It isn't just the management of how the collected taxes are used, but the methods to used in an effort collect them. I have no problem paying my fair share of taxes to allow society to function. I do have a problem with the government forcing me to document my every move and layering tons of ridiculous financial regulations in an effort to make sure I haven't cheated them.

Ah, nothing says "Poker News, Views, and Gossip" like a thread about backgammon and taxes, with a political derail thrown in.
