Howard Stern plays poker? Howard Stern plays poker?

I was driving into work this morning, listening to Howard Stern, as usual. At one point, Howard mentioned that he had been thinking of going down to Atlantic City this weekend to see Artie Lange. Artie is a doing a show at the Borgata on Saturday night.

So as Artie and Howard were talking back and forth, Howard said that he probably wouldn't make it this weekend because he could not get things together, but that he would really like to go sometime. He commented that he had heard that the Borgata has a really nice poker room.

So now Artie perked up and confirmed. Artie went on to say that since they are all off on Fridays, he and Howard should put together a trip some weekend to go down to the Borgata to play some poker. Howard agreed that Artie's plan sounded like fun.

First, I had no idea that Howard Stern plays poker. I knew that he was into chess, and I often thought as I listened to him talk about that game that he might like poker even more if he tried it. I'm not trying to put chess down or anything, but there is so much more to enjoy about poker. It combines skill, chance, psychology, math, and booze. I've never heard anyone tell a good drunken chess story.

Then I tried to imagine the chaos that would ensue if Howard and Artie walked into the B's poker room on some Saturday night. I have to believe that the place would go crazy. I'm trying to figure out what game they would pick, and if there's any chance that they might sit down at my 1/2 NL table.

Finally, I figured that some of the regulars on here must have experienced something similar in the past. There have to be some good stories of B&M posters finding an unexpected celebrity at their table. So I thought I'd post this and invite all those tales.

So if Rosie O'Donnell ever bluffed you out of a big pot, now is your chance to confess... On second thought, don't tell us about that: just wait until you get the chance to play with Jessica Simpson to give us a trip report.

Roberto Luongo from the Vancouver Canucks was playing in a $60 tournament on the weekend..

I wonder how much fun poker can be if the money has no real meaning to you anymore?

I was listening to Stern this morning as well and had similar questions. He has talked about playing live poker before but never mentioned limits. While his BR is mucho he has discussed the fact that he really doesn't enjoy gambling and plays $10 BJ while his celebrity friends play for big money. I don't think him sitting down with 300 at the 1-2 is out of the question. I know Artie plays poker when he is in Vegas but again they never talk limits. I would be very interested to hear from someone who has played with him.

He plays 10/20, he talked about this many times.

He enjoys it and doesn't feel like playing above his head. He knows that he is up against sharks compared to his ability, so he sticks to limit that he feels comfortable with. He said that he thinks people have no business gambling large sums, he has some sort of morals about it.

A porn star sat on my lap during a 2-5 game at the Borgata once, and nobody cared.

I hope it wasn't Blue Iris from the Stern show.

As long as it wasn't, do you have pics?

10/20 is respectable.

I know one of the partners in the firm I work for makes 7 figures. He plays 4/8 LHE from time to time. I understand that some people don't enjoy gambling large sums of money but it bother me that I play higher stakes than a guy who make 20x what I make. Its probably wise on his part cause I hear he's a fish.

Luckily my local boss plays often and at limits well above me. He gives me something to strive for.

I have heard/read several different sources that say Bill Gates plays 10/20 LHE in LV on occassion. "He plays a little tight but has a nice bluffing style".

I heard Bill Gates plays 3/6 LHE.

My biggest celeb story is playing 10/20 NLHE vs. Leonardo DiCaprio at Bellagio on New Year's Day. He played well but doubled me up when I flopped top two on KJ6 board vs his AK

My (and others') wife was drooling the whole time.

About 5 years ago, I was playing 10/20 LHE at the Taj with Cincinnati Reds left fielder Adam Dunn. They were in town to play the Phillies, and his buddy Austin Kearns(now on the Senators) was sweatin him nearby. There was also the backup catcher playing on the adjacent table. Dunn was extremely drunk, but as nice and down to earth as can be (awful player, but he was just there recreationally). He was bummin cigarettes from a 50 something frail woman and throwing her a 5$ chip for each. He left about an hour and a half after I sat down, but during the session, Ken Griffey Jr stopped by to tell Dunn and the other teammates that he would be playing blackjack when they wanted to get out of there.

I played in the pink chip game at the Trop with a former cruiser weight champ Al "Ice" Cole. Very nice guy but he sucks at poker.

Bought my wife dinner and paid for the whole weekend from sitting down with him to my right. He just kept pulling out hunods...

he has talked about playing poker many times, but i have never ever heard him mention limits. also i'm certain that in his private games they play no limit freezeouts sometimes, since recently they were telling the story about howard busting gary on the first hand with aces.

of course if a hardcore stern listener confirms this detail i will believe you. but my recollection is he has only played poker in a casino maybe one time, a few years ago in A.C.

artie has played in vegas from time to time, and also plays a huge cash game in jersey (he has won/lost like 20k in a night at this game) and a 3k buyin private tournament.

Alex Rodriguez showed up at Harrah's in Kansas City once when the Yankees were in town. He sat at a 2-5 NL table behind me so I didn't see how he did. After a while, his wife came and got him. I think he left a fat tip for the dealers since someone made the rounds after he left and dropped a black chip in each of their toke boxes.

Stern has played poker a long time, he used to participate in a home game with his cast and crew some friends and his Lawyer buddy Don. They played that game for years and always talked about it. he's been a fan of poker for as long as I been listening (since 92/3)

Is it really surprising that people who really have a lot of money and earned it don't necessarily gamble at high stakes? People who earn a lot of money do so through gambling all the time, but they are educated and controlled gambles. Ones that are not available at the poker table. Poker is certainly a sport/game that is enjoyable to play, but for almost everyone who plays it, it is not a good way to make money.

That being said I would love to play Poker agaisnt Howard Stern. I can't imagine he is that good.

Clearly you have never witnessed drinking chess with shot glass pieces and chili vodka.

I played 2-2 LHE with a couple of American football players including Terrel Owens at the Hard Rock in Hollywood, FL. Since I'm not a big fan, I didn't recognize any of them but thought they might be some sort of afaleets (misspelling intentional). Mr. Owens talked alot of smack and I called him out on it several times. I ended up winning a huge pot that was 6 way capped on all 4 streets and they left a little while afterwards.

I'm a transplanted New Yorker who now lives in Philadelphia, and so I don't take this stuff too seriously. However, in the 19 years since I've lived here, there has never been a more controversial sports figure in Philadelphia than this guy.

I can't put my finger on why exactly, but I find it hysterical just to think about this particular guy was sitting in on a $2 LIMIT game. In his last year with the Eagles, he couldn't motivate himself enough to play for the millions that the Eagles were paying him. Yet somehow, a few $2 bets are enough to make this guy talk smack. That's just too funny to me.

Listening to Stern and Baba Booey talk about the aa vs kk hand, you can tell they don't really understand the game that much. Howard seems to be real intelligent guy, I was expecting that he was better.
