in the history of online poker, how many were there? What were their names? What were the circumstances?

I know only of UltimateBet cause of USA gov closing their accounts and Rednines - not sure what caused it.
Now i see on cake network they sell 1$ for 0.15$.

I guess you are talking about the original Doyle's Room and not the one that morphed into America's Card Room?

Pitbull Poker closed due to financial misconduct and super users.

Did Full Contact Poker ever get off the ground as a poker room?

How could we forget PokerSpot? I'll be charitable and say financial issues.

The original closed, accounts were transfered to Full Tilt, and I don't know how many months/years later, another opened up. I think Doyle got worried about the feds with this second room and told the new site to remove his name. At first they declined but then agreed and changed it to ACR.

Planetpoker was the earliest site I believe, they switched to playmoney only around UIGEA. Still had my favorite software of any site.

Jetset Poker...its still around (I think) under another name, same software, only play money now.

Paradise Poker isnt around anymore is it?

[Edit] Found a thread Seven of Six made on Jetsets' shadiness:

-paradise was sold to sportingbet.
-there was a site called propoker that gave out like 600% deposit bonuses. real shady with house bots. Couldn't win on that site because it was a scam. Just abruptly closed one day without a word to anyone. Would love to hear anyone else that got scammed on this site though this was back in the early early days of online poker.

To derail the thread slightly, I've decided to open my own room, Bull**** Poker. That way I'll get great publicity as when people get beat on the river, they'll be saying, "That's Bull****."

Being serious now, I think if a new company startes using the name of a former site, it counts as a closure. Kind of like the most recent Toyota MR2 wasn't the same as the original Toyota MR2.

Haha i like it. No one will be able to twist the site name to degrade it, as on other sites such as: Jokerstars or Fooltilt.

There were a ton of sites for a while when poker was huge. I never played on it but I remember seeing one called Come Out Poker which was a gay themed poker site where straights didn't count.

This one just stopped servicing the US and I think got much smaller as a result. At one point it was huge and it was the first site I signed up for. Fond memories of clearing the $200 deposit bonus at limit holdem back when it was actually possible to clear deposit bonuses at low stakes.

There was that porn poker site that gave the winner of a tournament a place in a movie.
