Over 1 million per year
Over 500k per year
Over 100k per year
Over 50k per year
Over 10k per year

You can lump two years together if you want.

I'd multiply ^ numbers by at least 5. WSOP Main by itself accounts for 8 or 9 making 1M+

1000k+ = ~100+
100k+ = 1000+
10k+ = 10000+
1k+ = 10000+

Like for in any given year, doesn't have to be consistently, this would be my ~order of magnitude guess

Wouldn’t making an income by definition mean making a profit? A reg could win a million at ME FT and still be well under a million profit.

if you mean average income and not just binking an mtt

Over a mill no more than 2 digit number of players i would say
Over 500k i would estimate in the low hundreds
Over 100k probably many thousands of players

Ok I thought you meant they put themselves in enough +ev spots to average this per year. Certainly the numbers for winners in any given year are higher since a bunch of randoms bink tournaments.

I think this seems very accurate for a realistic take on how many could win consistently in 2024, and not just luck factors. Maybe its a few more on the two highest levels.

True if counting only online. Live it has to be more. Every major city just in USA has a massive private (mostly PLO) game where the biggest winner is easily making 500+.

Correct, I know a few tourney grinders who had some major cashes, turned private game pros in these cities, and never looked back. They can make in a matter of 2-3 hours, what 1st makes in some tourneys. I just never understood why the host would invite them.....lol.

They usually demand a % of winnings and/or for those players to float the game money when they’re illiquid

Private game politics are something else.
Funny example I know is your typical baseball hat wearing 15% vpip top set only white boy whose best friends dad happens to be a whale billionaire. He just says “I bring X to the game only if I get a seat” and he can get in any game he wants.

Literally ~0 of those people each year have enough % of themselves in the main to be actually making more than 1m.

If the whale dad regularly goes to the games as well, yea. If hes just some nit who has a lot of money but never splashes it, no.

At least be right when you quote to argue. Weinman shipped 12M, you think he had <8%? You think Jachmann and Prydryk sold 50% plus? Nice read bro. What's it called when you say dumb **** and think you're enlightening others? Maybe you can help.

Do you know what ~ means, dumb ****? Not surprising at all if people like Jachtmann and Prydryk had swaps or sold for 50% + in the main.

Depends what crypto prices are doing... Seriously.

If we're just talking pure poker profits and assuming crypto hold steady, it's very difficult to gauge even the size of the worldwide market to come up with a good estimate.

I would guess very few are averaging 1 million+, and not a whole lot more are averaging 500k+.

Once you get get into the 100k-500k category I would think you would have a lot more, at least in the thousands. I would guess most really good pros who don't have access to private games for infinite money would fall into this category. That's putting aside the absolute best of the best who can make more than this in mostly public games.

50k+ you're going to have a lot more, as you're now in realistic territory for someone to make this much playing games like 2/5 or loose 1/3 that run more consistently all over.

10k+ will include a fair number of decent OMC retired types playing soft 1/2, as well as the better players grinding small stakes as a hobby.

It's difficult to gauge the size of the market, and also how many and how much people are actually winning. I would love to see some actual data.

I would be more interested in the % of players rather than the actual number. I would also think that the people who make big bucks one year may not be on the list the next year. That would include the people who run God mode in one of the big events.

Also, if there are 15 players who make a million in any given year many would you be able to name and how many are making playing underground in home games?

Fair but thats rare. Generally speaking the pros in the private games where you can print are either really good action and/or super fun to play with.
So many of these poker goof balls don't get it.

Being better at a game you play seriously and are trying hard to win at than someone who is playing for fun looking to gamble isn't hard to do and isn't remotely an accomplishment.

You can't take their money if they don't want to play with you.

Imagine a good pool hustler who has a rich guy playing him for big money. The hustler isn't gonna walk around the table for 5 minutes trying to get the perfect optimal shot and he's not gonna berate the rich guy when he hits some lucky miracle shot. Yea that's never happening.

Almost none of us have billionaire friends so if you want to get in these games it's best to act right.

100k+ would be much higher. There's probably like 30 players who make 100k in Ontario alone and thats an insanely small fraction of the world

Too lazy to check, but if you look up only live stream results for 2023, pretty sure 15+ names crack 1m in winnings.

15 might be a fair line for a number of players that win 1m+ just during WSOP cash games. That’s like 10-20 buy ins for semi private games thet run almost 2 months straight with almost no rake. 15 players should be fairly easy.

Not that rare, if you bring a losing player into the game that can dump 3-4x than you win, that will keep you in the game as long as you bring him along. In my experience, other whales rarely complain about the biggest winner, as long as the guy is not a total douchebag ofc. It’s usually the game runner who pulls “they don’t want you in the game” card because himself doesn’t want you winning too much, whales don’t really give a ****.

Agree on all other points obv.

Right but how many people can actually do that without nailing all of the other points?
Most people don't know billionaire whales that are friends of their fathers. if a whale likes them enough where they can play the whale card it's generally bc they're fun to play with.

Are we including poker income that doesn’t directly come from playing? If you include coaching income or sponsorships or running a raked private app game, the numbers get a lot higher than if you only count profit from playing strictly.
