In other words, promos are a tax on people who play during peak hours, redistributed to your daytime regs. It is really smart business because everyone wins except for the weekend warriors, most of whom don't really think about it or care. But as someone with a full time job who only gets to play on weekends, I absolutely despise contributing to a promo fund I don't have an equal chance to win back.

Jackpots, on the other hand, are fairer because your chance of winning is roughly proportional to how much you are contributing.
Jackpots are fairer if everyone is playing the same stake

I remember borgata used to have the jackpot include 5/10 nl which was a joke
It's way more likely to hit in 1/2 nl because more people see flops turns and rivers and bc 5/10 is way more likely to go short handed

It's great that you call people idiots when you'll drive 4 hours to play 3 hours of baby stakes nl and think you had some massive edge bc you happened to win

2-4 fixed limit hold 'em is not declining in Las Vegas. It's the most popular stakes for limit hold 'em. However, all the games have moved off the Strip where locals are more likely to be playing.

It's limit hold 'em as a whole which is in decline.

You are right that lower stakes tables probably hit the jackpot more frequently, but even keeping that in mind, as someone that plays 20/40+ LHE, I would prefer all the promo money go into a jackpot instead of weeknight/daytime promos. I at least have a shot at the jackpot.

Of course, I'd prefer my games just not have a jackpot drop. It might drive a couple players away, or some folks might play a smaller game when the jackpot gets big, but on the whole I don't think many people play mid-stakes games and up for the jackpot.

Hahaha when I read his post, my immediate thought was “isn’t this exactly what gets ‘idiots’ to keep coming back? That chance of a big winning night of rungood?”

Not saying he’s a losing player, but the notion of a single two-hour session being meaningful in any way is the domain of the very fish who don’t pay attention to rake.
