Seems like everytime he gets close to a TV table he misses out. Here he was chip leader with 10 people remaining and he blows up with a K9. Is it nerves, impatience, or some sort of curse?

Hand #69 - Blinds at 50,000-100,000 (10,000 ante). Osmin "Odie" Dardon has the button in seat 3.

Elky Grospellier raises from the small blind to 275,000, Joe Sebok moves all in from the big blind, and Grospellier calls with A9. Sebok shows K9, and he's dominated as he faces elimination.

The board comes J76410, and Elky Grospellier wins the pot with ace high, taking a massive chip lead over the rest of the field.

Joe Sebok is eliminated in ninth place, earning $85,260.

whatever Sebok's stack size is, this seems ultra standard.

seems like a pretty standard resteal play with 20bb, who cares if you are the chip leader or not.

Doesn't he know that he'll only get called by better hands? zero play for sure.

The hand quoted above is the hand that knocked him out, he was already crippled when his A-K failed to improve vs Olav Von Sachsen pair of 7's, the K-9 hand was the final straw.

I think Seeb's has really improved his game and I can't fault his play here. If you look at the 12 who started today all with relatively equal chip stacks I think making this final table would have been absolutely brutal. Also looks like Elke is running extremely hot like he did in the PCA last year and he is so talented that he is very hard to play against.

This tournament was packed with talent to begin with, I think to even get as deep as he did in this shows his game has greatly improved.

I think it is irresponsible to sit back and criticize Joe for his play here. In past tournaments maybe, but not this one.

In addition to upping his poker game, Anyone who has Amanda Leatherman as a girlfriend has nothing else to prove.

PS Remember also, this guy has built a huge internet business from scratch in about a year or so - when you look at the content and what he's done in a short it's pretty amazing. Thing's like bringing us "the life of Ivey" and the "red pro forum", "Cash Plays", the radio show he does, etc. Joe is a smart, hard working guy.

I'm not sure I would call "crippled" being 2nd in chips with 2 million and the blinds at 50/100,000. Here were the chip counts after the AK hand:

Seat 1: Olav Prinz Von Sachsen - 2,025,000
Seat 2: Will Mietz - 2,300,000
Seat 3: Osmin "Odie" Dardon - 1,975,000
Seat 4: Bertrand "Elky" Grospellier - 2,000,000
Seat 5: Joe Sebok - 2,050,000
Seat 6: Nam Le - 760,000
Seat 7: Adam "Roothlus" Levy - 1,570,000
Seat 8: Nenad Medic - 2,020,000
Seat 10: Michael DeMichele - 1,430,000

I just know how much he wanted to make a TV table and was surprised by him risking his tourney life with K9. But apparently this is a stardard resteal.

Like the OP, people just love to player hate. He got lucky when his mom married Barry, but he's stood up on his own. We can't all be Elky.

During PRR, they seem to hint that Pokerroad.com is a big loser so far. Maybe Shirtroad can save the day.

According to Sebok IIRC from previous shows (not the most recent one, which isn't up yet at the time of posting), the first time he bubbled it was poor play/inexperience. Then at the Bike where he bubbled/got 7th again he was AIPF with pairs to an ace twice against David Pham at the Bike and lost both.

This time, he lost a flip with AK versus 77 for a mil and then was unlucky to be dominated against an aggressive player in Grospellier for his remaining two. So I'd say it's, on the whole, mostly because of bad luck when he's gotten deep. In Sebok's defense, he's clearly playing to win. For that reason I think if he ever makes a final table he'll probably have a lot of chips to work with.

so funny how everyone says elky is `running hot`

what does that even mean?

the guy rapes every tournament he plays, maybe that says something

that almost sounds like a level Rekrul

He seems like a real cool guy though, he was pretty funny on the PokerRoadRadio interview. And he's quite obviously a real good tournament player

elky was raising almost every single hand, mucking K9 is a far bigger spew than shoving with it against elkys range (ANY TWO)

unless hes got some sick read

but who can get a sick read on a crazy french man blasting batman music in his headphones nonstop

maybe theres some added dynamic im missing because of how people didnt get knocked out for so long and how similar all the stacks were (rarely happens like this) and how big the blinds were to everyone

but i dont think so

It doesnt matter what read you have. Your essentially coin flipping your entire stack with 9 players left at a major donkament with king high nine kicker. not a +ev move imo.

Coinflipping is your best case scenario, it's likely that you'll be a 40/60 dog, no way you are dominating a hand with K9 or getting called by anything that K9 would dominate. Spewy play.
