Sure, and I'll take the blame for that. But the nice thing is, it can be fixed. The derail, that is - I have no comment on, or remedy for, anyone's face.

It is illegal to charge more than 10% interest annually on a loan if you are unlicensed. The crime is called usury.

Did the lender declare in advance the consequences of non or late payment? If yes, then maybe, just maybe you could argue that the victim voluntarily entered into a separate justice system and in doing so agreed to its codes of punishment.

However, the person offering the service is still breaking the law in the first place, and in the last place when dishing out the punishment. The victim is trapped in the middle due to their own weaknesses.
You are clueless. and I 'm not your brother

Collector acted like a pro - let up fairly quickly once victim went fetal and stayed on message ($$$) judging by the 'splaining victim was doing during their conversation. But getting caught on tape is no good.

Pretty much. People who should call police over minor beatings = people that don't break laws. Rats = people that are themselves involved in illegal transactions, yet call the cops on others or worse yet, refuse to take responsibility for their own poor decisions and cooperate against others. Of course this doesn't apply to perverts, animal/child abusers, etc.

It's also pretty well known what happens if you don't pay that kind of bookie debt. I highly doubt most of them enjoy having people beat up. They would prefer to get their money without paying somebody for a home visit.
That'd be my guess.

Tape is good cautionary viewing for young, naïve poker players to see, just as much as the Cumicon podcast (part when he weighs his decision to fully immerse in online PLO based on life expectancy was chilling). This ugly episode should serve as a warning not to get involved w the darker side of gambling unless you really understand everything it can entail.

WorldStar Poker almost sounds like a real poker room haha

Re: HashtagKing assaulted in the summer & police need help

I think people are forgetting what an absolute piece of **** HTK was while he had his five minutes. Not only was he abusive in every single game he was in, but he pulled a ton of dumb **** with casinos, getting banned constantly, skipping out on bills, and his social media presence was a cancer. He spammed and abused multiple people on Twitter.

It comes as no surprise that he attempted to avoid paying a gambling debt like this and got a beatdown. I'm not saying he deserved it, but I have to believe he put himself in that position and was not an innocent victim.

Of course he deserved it. In our nanny state you can borrow a **** ton of money, never pay and the courts will protect you in your degeneracy...the person owed gets nothing. In the real world there are consequences for being an *******. When he borrowed the money he was well aware that non-payment would not be met with hugs and kisses.

Seems doubtful that any of the described subject debt originated with a lender in California.

I believe the criminal rate of interest in Canada is 60% annually.

"Under section 347 of the Criminal Code (Canada), interest rates exceeding 60% per annum are "criminal rates of interest"" according to one firm's website. http://mcmillan.ca/Canadian-interest-rate-rules

OTOH, according to a California law firm's website ....for people who have never been admitted to the California State Bar (or let their membership lapse voluntarily), unauthorized practice of law is a misdemeanor. The potential penalties include:

Misdemeanor (summary) probation ;
Up to one (1) year in county jail; and/or
A fine of up to one thousand dollars ($1,000)

Who might the blurred-out guys have been? The nearside one had a chance to go back outside of the room when it started, but chose to get further inside. Interesting choice if he didn't know baldy.

The problem having a "law of the streets" outlook or mentality is where the line is.

If the attack had caused a permanent brain injury, would people's opinion of it be different?

Things like illegal poker games, illegal lending and illegal enforcement methods of collecting debts should be stamped out.

HashTagKing's poker pesona and less than desirable previous behaviour is a side issue.
Your view is myopic. You see the act of potentially causing someone serious harm as being so destructive that there can be no excuse for it.

Actions have consequences and most people know and understand that. That's what helps keep society functioning. People don't step out of the bounds of what is acceptable in society only because they think it's wrong but because they don't think the potential for the consequences are worth it.

For even those that casually followed some of HTK's antics it's not hard to see how his actions could have led him to a confrontation such as the one pictured.

The guy was an ass. A lot of times to people that couldn't do anything about it without risking losing their jobs.

Some people get out of line sometimes but HTK just went asshat for an extended period of time. For the majority of us that tend to color within the lines for the most part it's hard to see him continue without any consequences.

I personally wouldn't have lost sleep if he was seriously injured or even killed.

Your opinion is different. No need to reply to everyone because they have a different point of view.

Let the rest of us enjoy this asshat getting his head bashed in and hope it prevents other people from being asshats in the future.

Lol you’re post is so beyond retarded. There’s plenty of annoying pricks that I would want to smash to a pulp. But he deserves to die because he is an “asshat”

Wow. Hope HTK stole some $ of you

No, I am suggesting that you thinking that California law would apply, and authoritatively proclaiming application of a 10 % usury law, is blowing smoke up your own backside, not "practicing law".

I'd lose some sleep if I lived in a society where it was socially acceptable to be bashed to death by vigilantes for being a jerk.

Maybe you don't, but other segments who live in your society probably think this beating was neither vigilant nor fatal.
