With the last respectable poker site beginning to give way to greed, if Guy Laliberte founded a poker site I could definitely see most regular players with access moving their volume to it. Laliberte is one of the few people in the poker community whose integrity and good will are impeccable. And since he's a player himself I can def see him hiring other players to help him structure a site that well serves the interests of regs, recs and site owner. He could organize charitable tournament series on the site similar to his One Drop project but he wouldn't have to go through other entities like WSOP or whatever casino. Considering the inherently predatory nature of the game, wouldn't it be nice if a high volume poker site gave a large chunk of its revenue to charities?

I think Guy has a pretty shady business history. Can't remember the exact details but I expect they'll be posted shortly.

+1 this is a pretty damn good idea. Guy definitely has the monies and resources to fund an investment like this.

Id play there and love it if a rich philanthropist who loved the game ran a site without actively trying to ream players for every cent

A ****load of all profits to One Drop would be amazing too for both the image of the online poker site and the charity itself

I don't think Guy feels like he owes anything to poker (perhaps vice versa), especially since he was/is a mark at nosebleeds and he knows it. This is a good idea but we're at the point where we're just desperately coming up with solutions that have no realistic chance of happening because of the new direction Stars is taking.

I would absolutely love this idea, however, if I were Guy Laliberte no way I would do it.

The biggest reason is: A lot of Major Nation's Department of Justice or Major Political Factions are using poker and online gambling as a scapegoat for everything evil.

These countries *cough US cough* are being hyper aggressive in retroactively criminalizing online gambling, that is, what was once legal under their constitution becomes "illegal" and then said country goes after the owners of the site.

If I was a billionaire, no way in hell I would incur that type of liability.

Also, a lot of these countries are passing midnight legislation and what was once profitable and legal becomes illegal over night or at the very least get unreasonable restrictions and regulations added *cough UK cough*. Then there is the associated political and legal hassles that come with all that...

So, as much as I would love it if he did make a site, and as awesome as I think that site would be, if I were his business consultant, I would probably advise him against it. At least until legislation in the various key markets stabilize.
