How much does it cost on average to rent a room in a person's place in Vancouver? I know vancouver is very expensive especially if you rent say 1 room or studio. But if you rent a bedroom, how much would be the price around? Also, would that place usually be walkable to transportation?
Depending on location, expect 500 to 900 per month for a room. If you end up downtown, everything downtown is walkable (e.g. from Stanley Park to Edgewater casino is about 2 miles). Otherwise it's best to look for something near a Skytrain station. At worst you should find something within 5 minutes walk of a bus stop.

What are you, twelve?

Pretty sure that site is the best you're going to find considering it pulls off craigslist, kijiji, and other classified sites as well as rental sites. Filter options were plenty good enough for me and others to find places.

You've asked the same questions in this thread for a majority of all your posts, because you're either too illiterate or lazy to read through the thread. Have fun in your search.

I'd try contacting some of the real estate companies, asking for property management division (or if they could hook you up with one). Here where I live (Interior B.C., smaller town) real estate firms all have prop. management ties & makes it easy to find a place. (lots of houses in my area were purchased by folks from the City (Van.) during the boom & are now being rented out & most of them rent their places out thru the real estate co.'s).

I've got a couple units coming up soon here in my building (90yr. old building)
Both are bachelor apts. (550 sq.ft.)
Rent: $391/mth. (prefer cash > cheque)
(also occassionally have 1bdrm. apts., 750sq.ft. $491/mth... they are BIG but don't come available too often)
No lease (month-to-month, with 1/2 month's rent for a damage deposit, need only 30days notice to move out).
Heat is included!
Power, cable, phone is your responsibility (power is cheap, cable is 'Shaw'HighSpeed ~$90/mth for TV & cable (you can get discount for the first 6mos.)
Quiet building (I mean QUIET!)
Convenient Location (you could easily live here w/o a car,... one of the two taxi drivers in town is a retired guy right across the street who plays on Stars & CAKE, lol... also holds a really loose/fishy $1/2 game that runs a few nights/wk.)
Grocery store: literally 1min. walk across the street
7/11 & McD's within 2min. walk
Computer store across the street (guy does repairs for me for free... often)
4 banks within 5mins. walking distance (closest <2mins.)
Mild temps. but lots of snow (temps. typically hover around freezing or slighly above, drops to 20F for maybe a week or two tops)
Skiing: one of the best resorts in N.A. is 10mins. up the hill (RedMtn.Ski Area), known for steeps & tree-skiing & for the fact that you can literally ski 360degrees around this mtn. (lots of the untracked fluffy stuff)

Location/transportation, etc.
Small Airport on outskirts of town with two flights/day from Van. (airfare is cheap if booked in advance,.... I've flown to Van. for $129/1-way & is ~1hr. flight... it's a 6.5hr. drive (prob. 7.5hr in winter)... also 7hrs. drive to Calgary (we're located pretty much in the middle between Van. & Calgary as far as driving distance goes).
We're 10mins. from the US border (~2miles as the crow flies). Two separate border crossings (Waneta & Patterson (Northport Wash.))
2hrs. north from Spokane Washington (nearest cardroom... )

I'm a pretty laid back landlord.... main request by me is > Don't knock on my door when it says I'm sleeping (aka 'playing poker' obv.) unless emergency

For someone looking for a place w/o nightlife, quiet area, beautiful scenic country (mtns.), & where it's super cheap to live this might be for you (might even be a starting place/jumping off place to get started from sorta thing?)
It is so cheap to live here that one could fly to Van. & back & stay for a weekend there with the money they'd be saving in rent/living expenses here.

pm me if interested. I'll answer any questions you may have (& can send pics. etc.)

There were one or two that were fantastic posted in other threads but I re-installed windows recently and lost the links in my bookmarks

Please stop, you are making me desperate to move back to the Kootenay's. 15 years or so of my youth was in Castlegar, the whole area is truly god's country.

I also live close to the major casino here so I can advise on logistics.

You are Asian and speak Chinese. Are you Chinese?

If trying to enter a country other than your normal country of residence, expect to be refused entry, and possibly detention or prolonged interrogation.

If returning to your country of residence, expect confiscation for purposes of further investigation, plus prolonged interrogation.

IOW, failing to provide a password when asked would be a stupid thing to do.

The process is very subjective, CBSA/CIC can reject you pretty much at their sole discretion. "I forgot my password" isn't going to fly (they'll probably just tell you to come back when you get it, at which point you'll have a turnaround on your record), refusing to give it to them is even worse. This is not the time to be difficult, dodgy or even assertive. Establish rapport with the agent, be friendly/polite and quick to honor their requests and it's very likely they won't press the issue. You want them working with you, not against you.

When I came up they had a ton of concerns with ties to the US etc. and my case was honestly really weak, but I was as friendly as possible, made a little small talk about my family when they asked about some pictures I had (which was partially strategic, making it sound like you have strong family bonds does help your case), and tried to come across as likable and excited to see Canada. I have absolutely no doubt that it was key to me getting in since I'm pretty sure I would have been rejected pretty much instantly otherwise. Don't get on their nerves or try to annoy them and be difficult.

If u guys dont want to rent in downtown bcuz of how expensive it is......check out Newport village in port moody or klahanie. Suburbs like 20min drive to downtown, fairly young crowd with a few good bar/restaurants with lots of good looking women all within walking distance

check w the site...possible that utilities r included in the monthly strata fee so that the owners doesnt physically pay for the utilities either...

The WestCoast Express is 20 minutes. The problem with it though, is it only runs into town in the morning, and then back from town in the afternoon. However, the 160 bus does not take much longer, and runs quite late. Many a time I missed the WestCoast, and had to take the bus, mostly when I stayed late at work, but more than occasionally when I got plastered downtown and needed a safe and cheap way home.

Is it easier for Australian's to get the full 6 months without as much hassle as an American attempting to do so (Commonwealth ties or something idk)? I'm thinking of doing a gap year from University and would love to have Canada as an option to spend a few months living in.

Half the staff at Grouse Mountain was Australian when I worked there so it can't be that hard
