Don't know if this is the right place for this but since it seems so horrible for any investor/poker economy in general, figured it was worth a post. Not trying to advertise for Greg but point out the absurdity of what sites like YouStake are propagating in a declining market in 2016. Understand it's the free market & since fossilman is a member here maybe he will come & respond to the glaring concerns/issues with a package such as this one.

“@FossilMan: How would you like to own a piece of me for all of 2016? check out https://t.co/i3PsVcd1T9, and use sign-up code: BACKGREG. Thx!!”

^ you mean the 5% fee for a webpage he has to advertise on his own twitter account anyway? The rest is just why not to get married to someone who is irrational but wants an equal say.

That listing has some absolute gems. I'm on an iPad so not gonna cut and paste but sure others will.

Also lol at will be whatever I decide, may be this, may be that who knows. There should be a clearly laid out breakdown of the investment.

Also how are Gregs results lately. Seems to be selling on his success 11 years ago. Things have changed somewhat. Pretty suge he won a few smaller buy in regional tournaments a few years ago however. Hpt maybe?

This just seems like a half assed attempt to roll himself for the year cause hes struggling either results wise or cash wise (lol my wife made me.

No doubt he'll get his 100k though lol

Not the first year hes done this exact same package. Its pretty ridiculous, not sure what his outcomes with it were in years prior.

some highlights

Although I have a 23 year track record of winning results in both tournaments and cash games, she is not a poker player, and is worried that I will start losing.

Even though this move is costing me EV, it is worth it because it provides marriage EV. Happy wife, happy life!

aka im broke now.

Those investing $1,050 (1 full share) or more will get a piece of autographed memorabilia mailed to them within a few weeks after we start.

Also, All investors will get 20% off if they wish to book private lessons with me

On Twitter he actually made the claim that "in most full time staking deals, backer pays buyins + expenses, so it is a factor" when I mentioned that he used that in his description as some sort of bonus the investor gets. Seems like a scam honestly or he's unbelievably out of touch with where the game is currently vs when he won the ME/his earlier success.

Hes was essentially freerolling for like 10 years. Its hard to imagine he has made much money on the tables the last 5 years or so. Yea probably just looking to free roll some more. Why enter a staking deal where you would have to enter makeup when you can just do this off your image.

Also the page says 105000, not 1 million

the admin fee for the website is ****ing preposterous BUT

i feel obligated to come to greg's defense here.

if he's playing a bunch of rando tournaments in middle of nowhere states for HPT / MSPT and whatnot and game selecting cashgames in between tournaments then it seems reasonable and doesn't come across as scammy to me. a whole year of action is different than selling for a single tournament or a tournament series. if he's a winner and diligent about game selection it ought to show.

greg is one of the original guys that sold action in here (he sold for his main event win) and afaik has never done anything shady or douchey with respect to poker deals or business. feel free to chime in this thread if you have evidence otherwise.

if you're greg's age and got a wife and a nest egg of (insert plausible $$amount here) GL explaining the concept of using that as a bankroll. rate of ruin far too high. can't have a standard downswing and keep your sanity / marriage in the right frame of mind.

can i guarantee he's a winner, no. does it seem like a reasonable proposition, maybe. but i don't think this is a stealthmunk-worthy set the thread ablaze scamfest.

"Since I no longer receive a guaranteed source of income, my wife has become more nervous about poker. Although I have a 23 year track record of winning results in both tournaments and cash games, she is not a poker player, and is worried that I will start losing. And without a paycheck to immediately recoup any losses, she gets anxious. So, to make her happy, I have chosen to sell off a big piece of my bankroll, so that my downside risk is a lot more limited (and my upside potential, but try explaining that to her, lol). Even though this move is costing me EV, it is worth it because it provides marriage EV. Happy wife, happy life!"

this dude is broke , probably a dog in anything above 2/5 . man, winning a tourney in the early 2000's was sure worth alot.

when i lived in mexico i knew plenty of people who did short term staking deals because of the countless number of horror stories of people in makeup. you take a smaller percentage of profits and reset the stake after x number of tournaments. this is no different.

For example, I definitely will want to play in the $10K 2-7 NL single draw tournament at the WSOP, as I consider it one of my best games.
this has to be one of the toughest fields of the whole series? doubt you're getting much practice in that game in the offseason. stick to 3 and 4 figure buyins in states that pride themselves on growing corn.

Its not a $1Mil package. It is a $100K (or $105K if you count site fee) package. Essentially, he is selling at a 1.42 markup roughly (since 85k of investments get around 60k of value).

If you think Greg is +EV at that markup, then buy a piece. If you do not think its worth it or you think there are better investments at lower markups, then dont buy a piece.

The guy has won 7 million in tournaments and had pokerstars backing for many many years. Clearly he didn't manage his money well cause that's plenty to live off of.

I mean he must have a serious leak (buy ins? cash games?)

Who would invest so much into Raymer? You could invest in Scott Siever, Mercier, Fedor Holz or any number of other people.

the $5MM he won from main event he had people buy pieces

take the other 2MM and subtract the buyins

factor in taxes, etc

and who knows what his sponsorship deal was, it's not our business

Noted, already asked mods to change the title. Also, your hypothetical MU seems way too low.

keep dreaming greg, the funny thing is someone out there will buy the action

mark up is not 1.42, much more complex than that

I have no clue about his financial situation. But being rich doesn't mean that you stop caring about money. At least not if you want to stay rich.

He uses his name to make money, nothing wrong with that. It's not like anyone is forced into buying a piece. Same thing Phil Hellmuth has done for ages. Some people say it's shady to sell pieces at way too high markup, others say it's just business, supply and demand.

Not sure if you realize how directly you contradict yourself in between the first and second half of this sentence.

As others have said, he won't roll with your money. If you think it's a good investment, great, if not, keep your roll in your pocket.

Seems a very unjustified thread when there are just as many bad investments posted daily in the marketplace here on 2p2.
