I suppose the big difference between Dtd and the one mentioned is that at Dtd you are not in the money when u buy in on day 2. I don't know the payouts either and how that affects things but either waya I don't mind ppl buying in later for more money.

Yesterday was day two of Mega Millions XII at the Bike. They had 80 people enter on day 2 for $5300, so its seems like it only gaining popularity.

So let's say someone has 5 BB with 15 minutes left in Day 1.

Option 1: likely mincash (we'll be generous and say $1K in equity)

Option 2: pay $5K to get a 40 BB+ stack in Day 2 and a $3700 WPT seat payout

That makes it wildly +EV for all shortstacks on Day 1 to stall and then buy in again.
there is no way this is the case. every single player that qualified would buy into day 2 if they got 800 plus 3700 seat for doing so

What do you guys think likely happens when we put this format in a vacuum where all MTT's in poker have this option? I am by no means endorsing this. I am curious about the implications of this format being more common and weather or not its bad or good. I suspect like most things in life, it would be a bit of both.

Example:

You are given an option to buy into day 8 of the main event, ITM for $200,000. This is about the same 20x buyin that the bike is doing. You get roughly 10-13% of it back right away for the min cash, and you are basically in a good spot playing the main. Not endorsing but if this was a real thing I see very rich people going out of their way to late reg something they would never normally play due to time constraints and sheer boredom.

I think this format can add some value to MTTs for even people buying in for the min because its not just going to be regs signing up but also people with disposable income looking to spend less overall time getting their gambol on.

This format is just too much of an abstraction of the basic concept of MTT's in the first place for me to like it. If someone can give me good evidence as to why this is +ev for poker overall, I might change my mind. As a semi purist (but self admitted re-buy fish) I am not a fan.

Don't forget what the objective of a tournament is. This option got 80 additional players, all of whom have enough money to put up 5k, back in the casino. When they bust out, what are they going to do?

Mission accomplished.

i really think this format is awful for the poker economy. makes the recs lose faster which is bad. i actually won this (brag i know but kinda makes my point) i am a professional that would typically not play a $160 flight very often, but would def play a 5k. all the elite players that would never be in the tourny are now entering when deep and snagging up all the equity that the recs are playing for. Its just not good for the longterm poker economy.
that said, i will be hypocritical and keep playing because i think its very profitable

This guy speaks the truth. It's really bad for anyone that is not rolled to play 5Ks. What I've suggested several times is that if they really want to do this, charge a big premium or reduce the number of BB they start with. But all the casino sees is a way to grab more rake while breaking the players.
