The dream of Alex Dreyfus of GPI fame to #sportifypoker continues with the Global Poker Masters from Malta. The event consists of 40 total players from top 8 countries by GPI on 12/31/2014 (US, Canada, Ukraine, Russia, Italy, UK, France, Germany) playing a series of SNG's. The easy-to-follow format is at http://www.globalpokermasters.com/how-it-works/

Streaming with Jesse May and Joe Stapleton on commentary, Kara Scott and Eric Danis providing periodic updates and Tatjana Pasalic as the sideline reporter at twitch.tv/gpipoker and pokerstars.tv with no delay.

Saturday consists of five 8-player heats. Standings after Heat 1:

Italy 20
Russia 19
Germany 17
Canada 9
USA 9
France 7
UK 3
Ukraine 1

Surprised they don't have someone trying to make it somewhat bearable. Probably not much you can really do when it gets so many viewers tho.

Seems like a needlessly complicated attempt to force poker into being a teamsport. Just let poker be poker imo. Though it's entertaining to see something new.

France eliminated in quarterfinals.

There's an MVP that will be awarded to a player from the winning team, there may be a prize pool, but it hasn't been announced.

Yeah but remember that doubles poker thing where teams of two would share hole cards and rotate decisions on each street.. That show was the sheet

I don't get why the US team under estimated the challenge and threw it away, shame, for they were the best, but we made a wonderful tournament!

Shame on the pros who didnt came, this may be the future of televised and marketed poker to the masses.

Interesting structure, interesting team challenge, interesting gpi related national teams..

Wake up americans, next year you should play more seriously.
