I stumpled across this videos where three highstakes regs are talking about strategy while one of them is playing a highroller final table.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1wjDzeQimI

Back in the days when I was playing, this was called "ghosting" and strictly forbidden. Just out of curiosity: Is it legal nowadays? If not, should it be legal? Do you think they should be banned or anything?

I don't really know, haven't got an opinion yet. Just wonder why they upload a video where they probably violate TOC.

I think they basically said ghosting was ok as long as the player was actually clicking the buttons

I haven't looked closely enough at that video to see if multiple people are advising a player before he makes decisions, or if they're simply discussing the play.

Ultimately, however, my weak-ass understanding of online poker is that OPTAH has largely not been a rule given that it's almost impossible to enforce (short of people self-reporting or turning in other players). I'll let other, better-informed people chime in on that, though.

Maybe in the future (with regulation) you’ll need a fingerprint scan before logging in to play

Ghosting was never “strictly forbidden”.

This would have no effect on ghosting

It absolutely was, in certain ways, on Stars

I'm not saying you're wrong, but I seem to remember that it wasn't explicity against the rules on Stars as they had no way of policing it. Or am I thinking of a different policy?

You’re thinking of the right policy.

Back in the day, it was even totally common for coaches to ghost their students during live play. That stopped at some point or at least things weren’t broadcasted out in the open anymore. Stars always said taking over another account is a big no-no, but we can’t police if there is more than one person sitting in front of the screen.

And the rest of that thread details it

Correct, some of it was against the rules but it was near impossible to police

FWIW, I’m not saying it was officially allowed in the past. I just wanted to point out that it was never “strictly forbidden” as OP worded it.

Since like 2015-2016 when twitch poker started blowing up jcarver confirmed on stream when doing fun guest streams that stars cannot police it and that it is not against the rules to discuss a hand live as its being played as long as the player clicking the buttons owns the account, though morally its not great to do teaming up with knowledge with malicious intent.

Obviously if people are streaming it or making youtube videos out of it they don't have malicious intent and I think its just a weird drama stir people have when they think they have a 'gotcha' moment linking a piece of content someone released of themselves playing with friends to keep stream interesting.

what happens in this video is perfectly normal. just friends discussing strategy on stream. likely what everybody has done before when he had a friend over or w/e while playing.

however, i find the thread title a bit misleading.

it sort of implies we have a "brazilian stable situation" here, which is def not the case.

sontheimer is an honest guy and i highly doubt he is involved in anything shady.
