Parole possible after 30 years.

Sergio Hernandez was convicted last September of 52 counts, including robbery with a deadly weapon, first- and second-degree assault, and the use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence.

Link to story.

wow what an idiot. definitely worth sacrificing that scholarship to georgetown to steal a couple thousand bucks and spend the rest of your life in jail.

it's a very bad time to commit crimes involving guns and schools.

52 counts.. DA probably charged him with separate assault counts for each of the players in the room.
5 years mandatory.. judge didn't exactly hang him.

i wonder if he will rob bubba's daily lunchroom sng

Wow, that is some hardcore sentencing. Seems like the judge made an example of him.

Where I come from murder gives you on average 15 years.

At least he has the time to study the game now
01-11-2013 , 08:24 AM
I know that's a serious offense, but 30 years seems a little harsh if you ask me. Murderers get less time.
01-11-2013 , 08:43 AM
Yeah, that's an incredibly long sentence. Pretty shocking. Not as shocking as that kid punting off his future for a semester's worth of beer money.
01-11-2013 , 08:44 AM
Im wondering if his last name was Smith instead of Hernandez if he even gets half that sentence.

Gaithersburg man gets 60-year sentence for violent College Park poker game robbery [gazette.net]
...When a woman answered the apartment door, Hernandez and the unidentified co-conspirator pistol-whipped her on the head and rushed inside, announcing a robbery, according to charging documents...

Bad for society (disproportionate punishments) but good for poker. At least now people are gonna think twice about robbing home games

Ah, that explains it. Still think it's a bit hefty, maybe like 10-15 years instead of 30-60. He could have had priors too, we don't know. Moral of the story, cocaine is one helluva drug.

I read some recent figures in the UK that murderers are set free after roughly 8 years with good behavior. Sick.

Do you think there are inmates in low-security prisons that are gold farming for cigarettes at 1c-2c?

Yeah the DC area is just full of judges and juries that hate minorities and the local press ignores them! LOL Come on man, maybe in Utah OK?

lol america law

All violent crimes should have harsh sentencing with no parole. Murderers should get life. I wouldn't want a guy that pistol whipped me in the face and robbed me to be out on the streets in 30 years with good behavior, so he can do it again. When he gets out of prison at 85 years old he can try again. He should have thought about good behavior before robbing and assaulting people with a deadly weapon.

lol do you have any idea how long 30 years is? I don't. I wasn't even conceived 30 years ago. And I couldn't even deal with a week in prison.

I agree with murderers getting life. Also, pedophiles and serial rapists should get life. And obviously a violent robber deserves to spend a lengthy time in prison. But, if this was a one off/isolated offence with no prior convictions, given his academic success and his relatively young age, i think 30 years minimum is a joke.
(Unless of course, he left a few of them permanently disfigured or disabled)

Thats the point. He thought he could get away with it, and if he did get caught he probably didn't think he would get that much time. He violated laws, injured people, and has no regard for his own future. He does not belong in society.

Yeah, cause people can`t change.

Sure, he needs to go to prison for that but 30-60 years? Come on, that`s just stupid.
