Dictator Bob Riley the governor had to shut down all those bingo slot machine parlors, the MS. band of chocktaws were his main campaign contributors . Whats a feller to do when he has to get his gamble on. Least we have one candidate running that is pro gambling

Isn't the story you linked to about vote buying? What "battle" are you talking about?

"FBI agents arrested 11 lawmakers, lobbyists and casino owners today, charging them with participating in a scheme to buy and sell votes related to the gambling legislation. "

Last edited by meen; 10-04-2010 at 06:55 PM. Reason: yes, it IS about vote buying, and i'm all for corrupt politicians getting arrested

Yes, It would be nice to know the story behind their arrest.

The article basically reads: (lawmakers arrested).

Without any other information, this thread is fairly pointless.

The "battle" is making news and garnering votes on the "Gambling is Bad" platform. Obv this is not related to poker directly, but any negative publicity about any form of gambling is bad for poker (especially online) imo.

This has been an ongoing thing for a few years. It's been back and forth on the bingo for a while. Not sure what this has to do with poker. Not sure our politicians are even concerned with it at the moment.

Here's a bit more detail;

cliffs; evidently, there is enough money in bingo to offer $2 million bribes to try to get it legal.

pokerstars/fulltilt and all these internet card rooms haven't done **** for helping poker if you take into consideration the money they make.

Seriously if all the internet card rooms got together and decided to tackle the problem head on the have the resources to make things happen.

They built a casino here...based on bingo. It's huge apparently.

My friend lives in IL and tells me your Gov is the biggest group of ****s he has ever encountered......

I agree with the other poster above me, I am sure your state will not be too far behind. It seems they enjoy taking away the rights of its people just as much, if not more, than the next guy.

Yes thats what its about, but the more interesting thing is the timing of it, 5 weeks before the governor election. They want to cast a bad light on gambling and the pro gambling candidate

Any state that outlaws sex toys (yes, this is true...check West Law!) is also going to try to outlaw poker and other forms of gambling.
