For the last dozen of years or so Oscars have come with the stipulation that the academy has first right of refusal to buy an Oscar for $1. Older Oscars (I don't know exactly how long this stipultion has been in place) had no restriction.

If its true Harrah's probaly feels like Eastgate is dissing the WSOP by wanting to auction it off to charity. They are trying to make poker as big as other sporting events. And I hardly hear of people giving away their championship rings to auction a year after they won it. I could see Harrah's and the WSOP now ...trying to do a commercial or get pictures of this guy wearing his bracelet only to find that it was giving away to charity. Just my opinion I could be wrong.

The Oscar clause says that if a winner does not want his/her Oscar they must allow the Academy to buy back the Oscar for 1 dollar. If the person sells there Oscar to a third party without offering the Academy first dibs they can be sued and outside of the contract they will be blackballed from Hollywood.

This is pretty bad gossip, I doubt Eastgate wants to do that, and I doubt Harrahs would really care.

Why wouldn't he do it?? It's not like he's auctioning off his actual WSOP Champion title. He's still the 2008 champ and he always will be regardless of what he does with his bracelet.

Some people would never consider it, and others would do it with no regret whatsoever. Eastgate is clearly somewhere between the two extremes. Personally, if I ever win WSOP Main Event I'd probably keep it, but I really don't see that it is such a big deal. It would be much worse if he pawned it off due to being busto.

Honestly, I think it is cool that he is not that obsessed with a piece of jewelry, and would use something that has both material and subjective value to help people in need (unless the charity is PETA. In that case **** Eastgate lol).

i remember them asking ppl what they have done with their bracelets, hellmuth gives them to relatives, lindgren gave it to his dad, doyle said he didnt even pick some of them up. good for eastgate if he sells it for a charity imo. at least he is looking to give something back to less fortunate people.
