Doug Polk's Challenge to Daniel Negreanu: Heads-Up NLHE Showdown (25k Hands) Doug Polk's Challenge to Daniel Negreanu: Heads-Up NLHE Showdown (25k Hands)

After winning the One Drop, Doug mentioned getting unstuck/ending his downswing. Must have been one hell of a downswing and that might explain why he walked away from poker. He has said that he doesn't enjoy it any more and gets anxiety when playing. Losing 1M+ will do that to a man. If I lost a milly at a game that I considered myself a pro at, I'd be shaken up too.

This is not a criticism of Doug or his skill level, just an observation.

Yes, he mentioned it on a pokerlife podcast with Joey Ingram I believe or somewhere else maybe.

What I'm surprised about is that nobody responded to Doug Polk cybersquatting. Except Mason to say I was way off base about him defending Polk's actions as not cybersquatting even though it clearly is.

We could have had it refer to something like Upswing but instead we decided to go for some lol's.

I absorb a lot of poker content. I always find it funny when people make ad hominem attacks. I'm sure Polk is doing fine. But he didn't quit poker and start a training site for no reason. You know what they say, "those that can't do, teach".

And obviously Doug is a top level poker player, don't get me wrong. He was just on a massive losing streak before he quit poker.

Doug also got incredibly lucky. If you look at his graph that he's posted he's up 700k over EV. So when you run super hot and then start regressing back to the mean it can probably feel even worse.

So he only won at 8.9bb/100 adj instead of 10.5. How terrible. That is only all in EV, that doesn't give you the entire scope of variance. Just where he was at when the money went in vs the outcome.

OMG the guy only won 2.75m instead of 3.5m if he would have run at all-in EV? What an absolute loser! Bet he couldn't beat 2NL now.

who gives a fk about cyber-squatting man. such a small thing.

is 1mil downswing really that much when youre playing the highest limits and some live cash games? Bet its not even that much in terms of Buyins and pretty standard. Maybe were about to get a linus coaching site as he lost over a milly and obv past it now and should retire.

It would be pretty hilarious for Dnegs to somehow win this.

I'm rooting for him for the lolz factor.

Doug is still a very good poker player, no one is saying he isn't. But running 700k over EV is pretty strong. And running so hot would probably skew how you view variance and make any kind of downswing harder to deal with mentally.

Cybersquatting is a pretty big deal, just ask Mason.

You should tell the second part to Doug, he's the one who quit cause he was losing in order to start a training site. Doug can't handle negative variance or a normal downswing. Maybe that explains Doug the douchebag's behavior.

And who really know how bad Doug was losing before he quit? 1MM+? 2MM+?

no i wont ask mason lol. nobody is talking about it because nobody gives a fk about it. it means nothing to 99% of poker players on a poker forum. Isnt exactly difficult to understand.

"doug cant handle negative variance" - the man lost multiple 30bi+ in his graph. Youre just being an idiot

LOL you must not be very familiar with the state of high stakes online 2014-2016. He got into coaching and business because literally nobody would play him HU anymore.

You're being disingenuous. That's just one factor. The other factor is he couldn't beat 6max NLHE he couldn't beat PLO or mixed games. He was just a massive dog in every other format other than NLHE HU.

Keep up the funny videos Thomas!

I'm more of a fan of Joey Ingram who had Doug on as a guest frequently. Watched his podcast today with Doug. And Doug made a lot of very funny and entertaining poker videos, can't knock him on that account. And he climbed the ranks of NLHE HU from the bottom to be the number one player for a time. Very impressive.

Yeh, so the best HU online NLHE players wouldn't play him, and Dnegs says he has agreed to play him?

If Doug can pull this off and get the win he should take on Limitless and Linus and retake this thrown!

Correct. Also unlikely he's taking the $1/2 action seriously.
