Yeah, I meant as applied to poker. Studying poker is either a subset of game theory or computer science depending on what you do. It actually really rare to do stats/linear regression in game theory; though I can see it being of use in poker for some reasons.

I always imagine people who say this to be spawned from the darkness of /r/bitcoin discussions

Actually just a maths/phsyics grad who is pretty grossed out by the insane lack of rigor in the subject.

Also, if you can't make falsifiable theories, it ain't a science

yes, there is an ongoing debate about this, and given you are a maths/physics grad (congrats buddy!) it doesn't come as a surprise that you feel and argue this way.

you can't cut me

TC probably used a Probit or Logit model rather than a standard linear regression fwiw

It's not like there actually is a debate FWIW. Obviously you can push shoddy/outright false results more easily in complex fields (ie. macro), since few people truly understand what is going on. The real problem is closer to the fact that the field is very closely tied to politics than actual lack of academic rigor.

Of course, most of the time this exact "debate" is about nuggets of gold like "fiat money is a scam by the 1%". It's easy to argue garbage when one or both sides don't actually understand what is going on

Looks like tc is getting slaughtered at showdown. I wonder how a 50k sample would look between these 2 and if it would be much closer then this match.

Without any information to base this assertion off (other than results ITT obviously), it seems unlikely that DK has a true winrate of 16bb/100 against TC, so it would have to be closer.

Nice challenge!

Btw, TC how much of a role do you think variance and sample will play in this sample? I'm asking because i'm not much familiar with HU standard sample sizes and also was thinking whether or not this two factors played a huge roll in that blue line of dongs?

thanks

+1. What science debates need is a little more San Quentin rec yard aesthetic.

ditto! can't say this is the best outcome for future battles (****, this could realistically be one of the last good ones we see) but it has been very worthwhile to sweat every day. thanks to both of you for doing this in a public atmosphere and behaving as gentleman while doing so.

I really would like to know which are TC/Dong opinions about this, since I guess no one better than them can judge, even if they could have different point of views about it.
