For those interested, Episode 51 of the PokerCast featured Robison. Highlights were discussions of Chip Reese and Stu Ungar.

He was Chip Reese's bankroll partner and room mate during the crazy drug fueled 80s period. He found Jesus, quit the drugs, and made most of his living beating Larry Flynt in stud.

Danny and Chip were also shaken down by Tony Spilatro.

RIP

@phil_hellmuth Please spell his name right!

Although I haven't heard of him personally, it sounds like he was a true pioneer of the game.

RIP and condolences to his family.

I am sure there are lots of old school grinders and game specialist like Danny that fly below the radar of casual poker players like myself .

Things I know about Robison:

- He and Chip came into Las Vegas with $4000. They ran it up to $10k grinding 20-40 stud.

- While Robison was sleeping upstairs Chip brings the $10k (their entire bankroll) downstairs (maybe the Flamingo, Dunes, Aladdin, Thunderbird, I can't recall which) to play 20-40 but then at the next table Chip sees a 400-800 Stud Hi-Lo game populated by Brunson, Pearson, Slim, and Johnny Moss.

- Chip takes their joint bankroll to the 400-800 because he looks at the play and concludes that the above players don't know how to play.

- Chip runs up the bankroll to $300,000 in one session one time scooping a capped pot with a nut low A to 5 straight flush

- Robison got into chemical dependency problems but became a born again Christian of sorts and got out of his problems.

- Considered the best psychological talker at the table over guys like Amarillo Slim

- Owned a Baptist church with Chip and Doyle

Sorry, that's all I know.

I hope Sklansky and Zee join this thread.

It was actually written by Mike's brother Tom ( who I believe also passed away not too long ago).

Such sad news. Danny was a good friend and a great guy. In all the years that I played stud with Danny I never heard him say a negative word about anybody. He always had a smile and was always comical and great to be at the table with. I learned a lot from Dannys poker and tried to somewhat emulate him at the table. He was an incredible Gin player as well. He was one of the best story tellers ive ever known. An all around great guy and the poker world and the world in general lost a special person. R.I.P. Danny, I will miss you.

Hi Everyone:

This post by Cory sums up Danny quite well. He'll be missed by those of us who knew him, and was definitely a one-of-a-kind person.

Best wishes,
Mason

Very sad to hear. Among his generation, Danny was the one I have played with the most. One of the best stud players ever and a great person, Danny always made the game fun to play for every one at the table. It just seemed natural for him with his talent and friendliness. he possess one of the rare combinations of being both smart and genuine.

Rest in peace, Danny.

I played with Danny a lot the last few years in the 20 and 30 stud at Commerce. I agree that he is the nicest person I have ever played poker with at the table. I was actually having a conversation with another player recently where I mentioned he one of two players I could think of have played significant hours with who never abused another player or dealer once, no matter how stuck he was or how much the dealer was messing up. In fact, I do not think he ever even failed to turn down his upcards himself when folding a hand (this is a stud courtesy that keeps the game running faster).
