I thought his problem was less that he was an alcoholic, and more that he used to turn into an ******* when he drank?

My impression of him from reading rec.gambling.poker in those days was that he was kinda like a Bizzaro version of Men the Master. Instead of cheating and abusing the dealers, he was winning and abusing the other players.

That stuff about Annie Duke and her skanky feet was outstanding stuff.

Lots of horrible beers mentioned in this thread. Almost anything in a green or clear bottle is bad. As soon as light hits the beer, bad things begin to happen. Many people have mistakenly come to recognize "skunk" flavor as "quality import" flavor.

Mass produced lagers of any sort are generally pretty awful, with very few exceptions from any country. The US mass produced lagers barely even qualify as beer if you know what goes into them.

Small micros are by far the best in the US, and I suspect the same is true in the rest of the world.

Ales >>>>>>> lagers in general IMO, but there are good lagers.

Everybody should brew their own.

Stella is a good beer, except it gets skunky very easily.
I try to drink it draft only.

Number of beers? who cares. Number of ounces is what counts. Every now and then my friends and ..sometimes me... drink our pound weight in ounces... Not fun the next day

The thing I like about this thread is that it points out that DN doesn't have a drinking problem, he is one.

Btw in Finland you are considered to have an alcohol problem if you regularly drink more than 24 bottles (0,33 liter each) of beer per week.

So 3 beers a day or 2 twelve-beer-night-out-romps per week are ok.

You (along with many other posters on this thread) have seriously no clue what American beer culture is really like. You are judging us by our top 3 beer producers which admittedly create very weak unsatisfying beers. But I defy you to actually go to an American supermarket, buy a few six packs from our nearly unlimited microbreweries and tell me American beer sucks!

We have more independent beer producers than any other country in the world. Our microbrews rival all beers I have had in Europe (which also has great beer) and vary wildly in alcohol content and composition.

Try some beer from Boulder, CO, Dogfish Head, Rogue, Lost Coast, Sierra Nevada, etc etc (list could be 200 breweries long) and come back and tell me we don't have some damn good beer available. Afterwards, you would be a complete imbecile to restate your claim.

Excuse the double post but one last thing... Stella? Heineken? I am beginning to think no one in this thread would know a good beer if it bit you on the ass. I fully agree about Bud, Miller, Coors, etc.. But you have to add these TERRIBLE European beers to the list. There are literally hundreds of better beers widely available in Europe than this sludge.

Bad lieutenant - is that (your username) a roots reference? more specifically black thought?

and just keeping with those topics...here's a quote from the legendary 215th that also sums up my beer tastes

"i hit the studio with a pen and a vendetta...sippin an ice cold becks, huffin the tenth letta"
