I probably wouldn't be saying this if he weren't on my side, but when you mod NVG, and you're not paid, i feel like we should give more leeway in these matters

I met a guy named Strong who worked in the medical device industry but started wholesaling CPAP machines out of his garage. Eventually he quit his day job and focused entirely on the CPAP business, riding the wave of, I can't remember what years exactly, but that period of time when CPAP went from being very niche to suddenly every single baby boomer or fat person over 35 in the country having one. I only played with him once, but I always wondered how big a killing he made, and if he moved on into some other business after everyone had a CPAP.

I used to play (unknowingly) with a career bank robber at the old Sands in Bethlehem, PA (now Wind Creek) about 6 years ago. He was a regular in our 2/5 game who used to splash around a lot of buy-in's until he got arrested as the "Silent Bandit bank robber" who robbed about 10 different banks in PA and NJ. He was robbing banks and losing all the money in poker, rinsing and repeating.

He recently got out of jail and returned to the poker room to play again a few months ago but while he was bragging to me about his return it was over heard by another reg who started telling everyone, which probably got him banned since I haven't seen him back since.

I regularly used to play in Costa Rica with a fellow with a curious profession.

The last time I saw him, he was literally in chains and leg irons at Cima Hospital in Escazu.

He is on the DOJ list referenced below:

https://www.justice.gov/criminal/cri...-ligator-et-al

Those games also included a fellow who reportedly headed the numbers racket in Costa Rica, and also a couple of import/export guys I was told were in the pharmaceutical trades. One time, a big name Hollywood actor sat in because his plane was fogged in at the airport near by the casino.

To this day, I can say that the poker games in Cost Rica are generally 10x more social, boisterous and interesting than anything I play in Las Vegas, not withstanding some resident Costa Rican pros playing. The style and atmosphere are just better, while the level of skill is lower.

I'm not sure it was his actual career, but one time a guy at my $2/$5 table mentioned he did taxidermy and lo and behold another guy did so too, and they proceeded to "talk shop" for the next hour plus. What are the odds? Oh, and let's just say I haven't looked at roadkill the same since then.

Girl(s) who said their profession was companionship/therapy and want to continue to go to talk about it some more after the hand is over.
Win, lose or draw - that can make any end to a cash game session very fine and dandy I must say! Whoo hoo!!

Many years ago during the home construction boom in FL there was a guy who was a millionaire businessman. His business was dirt. He owned the only permit in one of FLs most populous counties to sell the dirt that developers use to prepare lots for building houses since so many subdivisions are built on reclaimed swamp or sand. He said he owns this big tract of land with the right kind of dirt, and has no competitors. He said he had dump trucks coming in and out 24/7 trying to keep up with demand.

I played with a professional rodeo rider. He was so stupid he couldn't do simple math, like $30 = 6 x $5 chips. He kept asking the dealers to tell him how many chips to put in to call, as opposed to the bet amount in dollars. I told him myself, before idiots who don't like money insisted it was violating the 1 player to hand rule by telling him e.g. "7 red chips to call."

He mentioned that one of the hazards of the rodeo was accidentally tucking your thumb under a rope that you were roping a bull with, and having your thumb ripped off. A surgeon at the table confirmed that he has reattached thumbs lost in just such a manor.

I also played with a guy who was arrested the same day for murdering his parents, so his mug shot is him just exactly as he looked in our game, but I would not say that murdering his parents was his profession, so I admit this does not qualify. His grandfather was a known LA poker rec, maybe some of you will guess who I am talking about!

Pure blind chance but I met my predecessor. We were just kind of chatting and realized we were in same field. Then figure out also the same graduate degree program, same school, same year but somehow didn't know one another. So from there we're exchanging cards and he's like no **** when did you take this job? And it turned out I was his replacement. He was like good for you I was like 15 years older when I got that spot, although he had a lot of years in another field and then switched over.

He was super nice guy, had no problem talking compensation and giving suggestions, and even letting on he was probably retiring in a few years. I said lol you think when that day comes you could give me a heads up? He's like not if you river another flush like that last one. Would be nice if that connection works out would be a nice next step and his current position is like 10 minutes north of me. I folded to him twice after that

saw a guy two weeks ago who said he trades cigars for a living at the Wynn. He went out of his way to mention that he does not smoke.

For what does he trade them ?

(Not in the Men's room presumably, unless you using euphemisms.)

a few months ago I was playing a local tournament and some dude I never met sat by my side. he had a soccer jersey from a team from a nearby state and looked like a soccer player. he also had a bodyguard right behind him at all times. my friend was the tournament director and lived in the same city as this guy. during the tournament break I decided to ask my friend who the **** that guy was and why he had a bodyguard at all times behind him. he said "let just say whatever you do, treat him nicely". I insisted a little more and he told me the guy was a huge drug dealer. I spent the rest of the evening fighting the urge to punch him in the face just to see what happened just like someone who has the urge to drive their car into incoming traffic.

last month I went to a tournament on a cruise and there were some very rich and famous people there. I sat at the main event table and this quiet dude sat by my side all night. we talked sports and he seemed really nice. a few days later I saw a guy on the news, a congressman that was racist towards a very famous singer in my country and it seemed like a huge deal. it was the guy I played with. turns out he's a far right congressman and is very popular around here. I had heard about him and knew him by name by he was way fatter in person and was also wearing a hoodie so there was no way I'd recognize him right then and there.

Why is it all these people who “push their daughter “ to someone .. if that was me , the daughter wouldn’t find me attractive lol

Like just because her dad / mum “pushes “ her to someone, doesn’t mean she’s actually gonna like them?

And not me personally.. but I heard Bill Gates randomly turned up at caesars and just played some 25/50. Not sure if he was a good player or not, tho I doubt he’s too concerned

Gates does like to play cards. Famous story of him playing 2/5 and Doyle comes up and asks him to play in the big game. Gates says he will oblige if they raise the stakes to the point where risk of ruin becomes a real concern for the pros. The pros declined

Haha that’s a good comeback by gates. Tho I guess you don’t get wealthy by being an idiot, so he was always gonna have a good response

Where and when did Doyle say that? The only story I've ever heard about Gates was that despite being a billionaire, he played the lowest stakes possible and was generally thrifty with tips, drinks, whatever.

same, the stories i've heard were of him waiting for a seat at 1/2 despite open spots ready to go at 5/10

apparently he was really into playing poker back in college and played all the time then

not saying i don't think the story was true or not, he could have very well said it, but if he did he probably said it in jest

Pretty hilarious that's he'd actually wait rather than play 5/10.
